I just read an article about how Mazda was offering a retrofit for the older (2014-2017) Mazda connect systems to integrate Android Auto? Is this actually true? I have a 2014 Mazda 6 and I have always had issues with Bluetooth and connecting my phone, android auto would be a blessing. Here is the link to the article

Can't find the thread being referred to, but here is the article from Engadget. Basically $199 for parts plus labor. From what I understand it's about 2hrs, so labor will vary depending on where you live. My dealer charges a ghastly $135/hr so you'd be looking at almost $500 after taxes for the upgrade. Pretty steep for what you get in my opinion.

BTW, it covers any MazdaConnect2 system from 2014 up as well as MazdaConnect 3.

If you just want Android Auto and your Mazda Connect version is not completely up to date (and you have a 2016+), check out this website for info on the unofficial version. Works pretty well for being free. Otherwise there are several good videos on Youtube for installing the parts yourself. You should be able to get the parts for under $200 on various mazda parts websites.

ToMToM users will unfortunately have to explore alternatives such as head unit replacement, as other users have stated, the 6 were not equipped with the Mazda Connect infotainment until MY16.

I have heard that there's an alpine unit that is fairly popular(?)

i just had the upgrade completed on my '17, and i'm real disappointed. AA does not work until the phone is *physically* plugged in to usb (and not wireless, via bluetooth). this is a complete waste. the year is 2018, and i just spent $500 on something i have to plug in?!?

Correct me if I'm wrong but that thing looks like it just overrides the screen completely, removing the ability to use the car's built-in navi. Besides, for that price you could get a full aftermarket Android unit that does everything you need it to.

That would be cool for a PDK for racing or just normal driving with a front camera. And if you think thats expansive for something like that, this has WAY more features than ive seen for other cars, and the Blowmaro guys have to buy a whole new body module thats modded from a dude who mods them for $1200 and then hack in power and other things.
