Good post! There is definitely something special about the red paint on these cars, it's absolutely the most gorgeous red on any car.

 

Was given some paint info from a friend who runs an autobody shop. Soul Red Crystal is approximately $26 per OUNCE. Respraying a rear bumper will be about $500-600 just in paint. Although spraying a 4-stage is not terribly difficult, according to him but labor costs are almost double.

Holy sh!t!!! It would be cheaper to paint your car with liquid silver!

With the supposedly "wafer thin" paint that chips/scratches easily, you might as well flush a dollar bill down the toilet every time a semi kicks up a pebble in front of you.

 

I'm assuming the wholesale price would go down if you buy by the gallon like an auto body would for large area damage, but DANG! If you're on the fence about choosing Soul Red, I know I'd choose literally any other color! Sounds like if owners aren't both incredibly proactive and incredibly lucky, they're in for a lot of heartbreak at any point down the road (even though it is a nice color).

 

This makes me sad because the wife and I have been penny pinching for a long time to eventually be able to get a used red Miata RF because that newer soul red is to die for...... I'd be covering the entire thing in clear 3m haha....

 

This makes me thankful that a red 6 wasn't available when I purchased mine. What I got is machine gray. A few chips, here and there.
