Unoperable Keyless System

Hey guys, I posted another topic on this in the main Mazda6 forum, but it went on down the line of posting and didn't get noticed. Also, i was half asleep when i posted up the description so it probably didn't make much sense to anyone except me. SO, i'll try this again...

Alright, so two days ago, i went over to my friends house, and previously, when i left my house, my keyless entry worked just fine. When i got to his house, it no longer worked which i found strange. I pressed each button a number of times around the car to see if the location of the fob mattered that a signal may be weak or something. I got no response.

So i got home later that day and pulled my fob apart suspecting that it may have been the battery for it, but i had my doubts because i had already changed out the battery for it maybe 6 weeks ago... the battery was fine.

I decided to check my fuses for the door lock system as well as one under the hood, both checked out as okay.

Finally, just in case something might have happened to the fob and got pressed 257 times for the code to get lost, i decided to try and re-sync the fob to my car.

After disconnecting the car battery and reconnecting it, i went through the process to no avail, there was no response of the car recognizing my fob...

any suggestions? i have a feeling that my car's keyless receiver has gone kaput, but i'd hate to dish out the green to get this fixed at the dealership...

You can always buy a fob off of Ebay and reprogram it. It'll be cheaper than the dealer...

#3 ·
the thing is though, my current fob still transmits, my father checked the signal output of my fob compared to his for the van and the output was the same... leads me to believe that the receiver went out on the car...

#4 ·
But you dont ket the "KEY" icon?
Warrantee?

#5 ·
what does the "key" represent on the dash? i've seen it before, but never paid any mind to it... my car didn't come with the manual so some of the little things that my car can/cannot do are unknown to me...

sadly my car's been out of warranty for about 3 months now...

#6 ·
Went out and checked my car, and i do have the blinking "key" light.. still don't know what it means though...

called the dealership and they recommended the re-sync with which i told them i tried yesterday like 6 different times... they told me that if i brought it in, just for a diagnosis check, they'd charge $80+tax not to mention the charges of what they would fix... to which i thought :thefing:

any thoughts on if i bought the car's receiver at a junk yard and replaced the thing myself? b/c i'm fairly certain that's where the problem lays...

What is the procedure to reprogram the remotes?[/b]

2003-04 Mazda 6 REMOTE PROGRAMMING

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the driver’s door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) twice. Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

THANK YOU Shadow2! My 06 Speed6 keyless fob stopped working and when I read this it started working again, the only thing is the RED key indicator light is still blinking when door is locked and alarm armed.
Any suggestions on what this is about?

Ok i tried that but it didnt work.[/b]
is your vehicle a 2003-2004? if it is and it's still not working then you're probably in the same boat that i'm in...

i'm pretty sure that the keyless entry module in the car has gone bad....

did you ever get the lock/unlock confirmation that you did it right?

I'm having the exact same problem too, I have a 2006 mazda 6 and one day my keyless remote stopped working. The remote works fine as I replaced the battery in it, and when I press any button on the remote the red light on the remote flashes, but it seems that my car isn't receiving the signal. Any ideas on how to fix it? I also tried re-programming my remote but it didn't work, I got up to the step where I have to press any button on my remote twice, and that part didn't work.

Hey all, I feel for you man. I just bought a 2004 mazda6 and both remotes didnt work. I took them to autozone to check if they were emitting a signal and they told me they were. I then decided to take it to the dealership and they told me that they were unprogramable. They said they tried to program them to no avail. So, i had to buy a new remote and get them to program it for me.

PS. I tried the programing sequence multiple times and nothing worked, so I would say, if the programing doesnt work get new remotes.

It sucks but it is what it is.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am trying to help my sister out with something like this. She just bought a 2004 Mazda 6 Hatchback yesterday but only got the standard key with no remote. She's wondering if it we can just buy a remote off of ebay or wherever and program it ourselves or if we need two other working remotes to make it work. You guys know if this is possible?

that's what i did, you'll want to make sure that the key fob itself matches the model number so that you can be sure to program it... you should be able to do the seven steps that i have listed above...

good luck!

Did you ever get it to work? Same thing happened to my 2006 Mazda 6s sport sedan the other day. I could unlock the doors and pop the trunk, but couldn't lock the doors with either remote. I followed the directions listed several times on the Mazda forums for the 2003-2004 models, and it worked perfectly. First time I made the mistake of not realizing that I had to go 2 clicks with the key (1 click is acc, and 2 is on). Later I figured out that you really must program both remotes at the same time, otherwise the one you programmed will work and the other won't.

Went through this with my wife's 2007 Mazda 6. :slap:

Horn would blow continuously during rainstorms or high humidity nights or just at random. Sometimes it would stop blowing by turning on the headlights. Usually I simply pulled the horn relay (pouring rain or 3am), I'd tried swapping relays and the problem persisted. Once on my parking lot CCTV camera I noticed that the lights flashed during one nasty storm, at the time the horn relay was pulled. After that the interior lights wouldn't illuminate upon door opening, electric door controls wouldn't lock or unlock and none of the key fobs worked at all for any functions... :swearin:

Went through all the relays and fuses and couldn't find anything amiss. Decided to disconnect the car battery when I noticed the smallest amount of corrosion underneath the positive terminal, there was no external corrosion to be seen, I inspect that every time I wash or service the car. Cleaned, treated and reconnected the battery and everything worked correctly once again: Interior lights, key fobs and electric door controls all functioned normally...

The engine never hinted at any corrosion issues during cranking, no engine light issues regarding battery charging problems, never a dead battery problem. Only thing I can figure is that the battery drain or high resistance, had some mysterious effect on the anti-theft system or main system computer (ECU). The owners manual was completely useless (regarding relays and fuses) since completely separate systems were affected... :irate:

Hopefully this will save some poor soul some money at a repair shop or dealership, over such a simply repair or maintenance item as keeping your terminals clean... :yesnod:

Hi, I have a 2007 Mazda 6 and my keyless entry just randomly stopped working the other day. I got out of my car and hit lock on the remote and the horn did not sound, so I knew something was up. The red light still flashed on the remote when i pressed buttons, but the car would not react. I got my back up remote and it had plenty of battery power but the car did not react to that one either. I went to radioshack to get a new batter just in case, and that did not work too. So I'm thinking it's the receiver inside the car that is not receiving the signal from the remote. It's amazing that my warranty JUST went out 9 days ago too, April 25th was the 3 year anniversary since I got it. Looks like my only option is to go to Mazda and pay out the rear end. Is anyone in the same boat as me, and if so, how much did it cost in the end?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2004 6s and my keyless entry went out a while ago. All I know is, I only have one key fob(new battery), and nothing happens when I press buttons on it. I tried the ECU steps, but the car did not respond when I pressed the button twice on the fob. I would love to have keyless entry again, but I have no idea what to do next. I'll go to autozone and ask them to check if the fob is transmitting.

Hmm... I also have a 2004 6S. It came with two remotes, each with batteries that had been dead for months, if not years.

The dealer informed me, after checking to make sure they worked, that they need to reprogram them. This reprogram is not something an individual can do, not with the stock remotes at least. They wanted $80 to reprogram the remotes on my car, and were confident that it's a difficult process and their special equipment is required for it to work.

Not good.

don't take it to the dealer. I am having this same problem, 2 of the remotes I got with the car didnt work and one i ordered on ebay didnt work. I used my friends remote today, and was able to program it the first time using the 11 step method found all over these forums. The dealer wanted to charge me 50 bucks to tell me the remotes didnt work. needless to say, i sent my remote back to the ebay seller....

Try pressing Lock once, instead of unlock twice

Hey guys, I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm sure someone will find this info helpful sooner or later. I had this same problem, after I bought a new car for my wife and I started driving her 6. It's a 2004 sedan model and she never had keyless for it. I bought a Key fob off of amazon and I tried programming it today following the instructions it came with and the one provided here (both similar, both didn't work). I tried several times, failed, and did some more research. After I spent a good hour or so trying to find out why a lot of us were having this problem, I went back and tried again. This time, however, instead of pushing Unlock twice, like the instructions suggest, I pressed LOCK one time. Voila! So for whoever is still trying to get this to work, try pressing LOCK one time instead of the unlock version. Hope this helps!

Hi, sorry to open up an old thread...did you fix the issue? Was it the reciever that needed replacing or the key fob?
My mazda atenza key fob use to work, then it only worked some of the time, now it isn't working at all. It makes the clicking noise but nothing happens.
Even when I try to lock & unlock all the doors with the main drivers door lock on the inside door handle, nothing happens to the others door locks. So I have to lock & unlock each door & the boot manually.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have a list, in order of what I think is the priority:
1- the Reciever/ module not picking up a signal & needs replacing.
2- the drivers door lock actuator "motor or cog" needs replacing (or fixing: U-tube videos)
3- Key fob needs replacing & programing.
4- Fuses need checking.
5- Car battery terminals need cleaning.

I tried the 11 step programing for the existing key fob but nothing improves. Besides I don't think it needs programing since it use to work before. ( One other weird thing, which happens on my friends mazda 6 as well, is that sometimes when we turn the key on to start the car, the drivers side wing mirror folds backward/outward. We have to manually pull it back to position because pressing the button for it on the door only causes both mirrors to fold toward us, & pressing the button again causes the passenger mirror to move back into the correct position, but the drivers side doesnt stay in place. It folds back outwards again.

So I'm wandering if there is a machanical problem somewhere causing both poles with the door locks & the mirror! I've had enough with this car, & any help would be appreciated.
