How to add a heated steering wheel to a 2017 Mazda 6 Touring

Howdy. I have a 2017 Mazda 6 touring and I’m in the process of swapping out the steering wheel to 2018 Mazda 6 grand touring reserve steering wheel.

It started off as a project to add paddle shifters to my current wheel but when the GTR showed up in my local junkyard I showed up first thing in the morning and pulled it. I’ve also ordered the climate control panel from a ‘17 gt to have the heated steering wheel feature work.

I'm just wondering if I need a new wire harness to run to the steering wheel to power the heating elements once I have swapped the climate control units?

Edit/update 1: I put the new steering wheel in and there was indeed a wire connector missing for the heating elements. I didn’t take a picture of the steering column but you can see on the picture there’s only 1 connector on my original wheel and there’s 2 on the new one. Guess I’ll be heading back to the junkyard to see if I can get that and reinstall on mine. View attachment 248257

You'll know when you get there. On the earlier generations, Mazda put most of that wiring there for all iterations. The only place I noticed a difference on my Mk1 was a pigtail for the seat heater switches that I had to add. I was able to plug and play heated mirrors, power seats, BOSE sound, and fog lights because everything was already there.
Come back and let us know what you find.
