Ticking noise but stops when clutch pressed???

So I just bought the car 5 days ago and this started happening last night. I pulled into the garage and heard a strange tick tick tick, thought maybe it was the injectors, but when i press the clutch in it stops. So it is obviously not injector tick, nor timing chain tick..... This is my 1st speed 6 so I am not very familiar with the drive train yet. Ticking increases with engine rpm but goes away with the clutch pressed down at any rpm. It's quite loud and steady. Has anyone come across this before?? I've searched around and can only find posts related to the timing chain, a/c, and injectors.... The tick stopping when the clutch is depressed leads me to believe it is a clutch issue. pilot bearing, loose pressure plate etc.. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

With the car stopped and in neutral? If that's the case, I think you're right - a clutch issue.
Do you have a mechanic's stethoscope or chassis ears? You can pinpoint ground zero pretty well with either of those.

Yes, with the car stopped and in neutral. It almost sounds like when you put baseballs cards in the spokes of a bike but slower. I'll take some video of it when I have time after work today.

Sounds like the bearing, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad though. That's not uncommon to hear on a lot of cars with manual transmissions. I had a Stratus R/T couple and it still had a bit of a "marbles rolling in a can" sound with a new clutch, pressure plate and bearing. Everything worked perfectly though. If it's really loud, that could be the sign of a more serious issue though.

Alright... i know its been like 2 weeks but the conclusion was a bad transmission. The clicking noise was coming from a worn out input shaft. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear syncros were also bad. The front diff had some problems as well. Good thing Its all covered under the warranty. Total for repairs atm are $5,275.00. Thats just parts, not including labor. New re-man trans, new front diff and all associated parts including axles. Next time a dealership offers you a extended power train warranty i suggest you take it. The $2500 warranty just saved me $3000 and I'll get a new turbo soon as well. :) Pretty sure by the time I'm done My warranty will have replaced the whole drive train. Who knows i might get a new motor out of the deal to. They said I should get the car back friday (10/7/11) It took 2 weeks to get the trans from japan to the US. Apparently there were no remans to be had in the US. Seemed odd to me but whatever. I'm taking the trans home with me when i pick the car up so I'll take some pics of the broken parts so you can see exactly what it was in case anyone in the future has a similar problem.
