wouldn't comparing the insurance on a subaru Legacy GT probably be the best gauge for the MS6?
[/b]
The insurance for LGT is really cheap. With my insurance company the rate for the LGT is even cheaper than a 6s. But it's for good reason, Legacy was just named as one of the safest midsize by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

My insurance company, Met Life, said it will cost me an extra $90 a year over my 6s, but I think that's merely because the car costs $30K, and not because of the turbo.

Well, its good to know we aren't getting gouged on the MS6 insurance.

Progressive is my enemy right now, I am in the middle of a total loss claim with them. They are trying to screw me out of about $3,500 because they don't understand the concept of a special edition package. Looks like I will be finding someone else to insure my MS6 when I finally get it.

On my insurence and car tax the msp the VIN comes out as a protege DX. I pay so little on car tax and insurence is fairly low also. Maybe its like that on the 6?

My insurance is $68/6 months more than my 1998 Contour SVT, with the exact same coverage. It's less than my Mustang, but more than the MINI was. More than my wife's Odyssey by a bunch.

They (Progressive) claimed the VIN was bad, so I faxed over the MSO to show them.

Update - my "bill" came today from Progressive. Instead of being $68 more for 6 months, it's a $72 decrease for the MS6 over the Contour SVT.

If it makes any difference, I'm 48.

I'm liking this car better all the time......

Lucky you.
I'm about to drop American Family as they've always been lower for me, until now. Lets just say they want $120/month more then Progressive for lower coverage :sarc:

Man I cant wait to hit that 25 mark and get married ;-)

My SVT Contour wasn't anything special to the insurance company. It will likely insure a little higher because the vehicle is more expensive (higher cost to replace). Otherwise, the risk classification is likely to stay similar unless time proves differently.

However, as things can very, the best source of information is your insurance agent.

My insurance company (PALISADES in NJ) considers both my SVT Contour and my MS6 as High Performance vehicles and charges me the same for both cars, a full $300 higher than my wifes '01 Villager Minivan!.
I think I'll call Geico today!

"The funny thing is my insurance company doesn't know what a Mazdaspeed6 is..."

I have a theory about insurance rates. If you look at State Farm's website and how they classify vehicles you will find the most popular vehicles get the worse insurance rates. So a Chevy Colbolt (which is a very common and popular vehicle) will get killed on insurance rates. A Chevy Corvette (rare and so much more expensive) will get the best insurance rates. So being rated a Mazda 6 4 door and not a MazdaSpeed6 (which is what I am also rated) most likely increases our insurance rates. Many times more 4 door Mazdas are getting crashed, stolen, etc. just from the simple fact that there are more of them. If MazdaSpeed6 had it's own class the insurance would go down cause there are not that many to crash, have stolen, etc. Look at Rolls Royce and Bentley. These things cost a small fortune to replace but they are so rare that an insurance company rates them with great rates. Every six months you get that "Cars in your class have increased premium" because insurance goes by cost they have absorbed in that car class. We are paying for the mistakes and shit just happens of the many Mazda 6 4 doors when we should only be paying for the mistakes and the shit just happens of the rare Speed6.

I pay $10 more every 6 months than I paid for my 04 Focus SVT which was $350 (for 6 months). Seeing some people here saying $60 more a month makes me feel better about my rates, but geez that is a lot of money to insure a car. Ouch.

No one here should complain about insurence. Come to nj, i have a clean record, no accidents, no tickets, age 24 and my insurence here is $2800 a year. I pay almost 240 a month for just the bare mininum insurence im allowed to have on a car i havent payed in full.

How can we keep insurance down on this car?

I pay 1640 a year with a DUI. Its not bad though, used to pay 680 on the protege. My insurence kept dropping every year a couple hundred dollars for good driving. Anyways, insurence isn't gonna be cheap as a 15k econobox since the cars msrp is 28-31k.

I think my monthly rate is right above $100. I know my rate was higher for my 2002 Civic SI but not by much. I thoght it was funny coming from a 3 door hatch with 160hp to a 4 door awd car with 280hp and my rate went down. I have AAA for my home and my wifes 05 maxima se.

1460/year. That is with multi-policy discount (homeowners) and multi-vehicle (3 cars total). Listed as a 'pleasure vehicle'

AAA, I am 25, married and no tickets in Michigan.
