Mazda6 2012 Diesel Manual.
Hi, The aircon turns on and off when the car is Turned Off (No Key in) after cleaning it.
Waited until it turn itself on and hit the Off button last night.
I spilt a coffee in the Cup Holder which went into the Console Well
(Stupid design! Why have a Slot in the bottom for any holder of Liquids to spill over to an inaccessible area!?!)
I removed and cleaned all that too.
Left it all open to dry out properly.
It has drained the Battery overnight.
Have I created a trip

in the two connections as shown in the photos?

Something is being shorted for sure. I would have a look at those two connectors to see if the liquid has penetrated the housing and is shorting the contacts. I am having difficulty with this theory, though. All the components of the a/c system require the key to be in the ON position. So it would seem to me that whatever is shorting, is bypassing that circuit and is involving direct battery power. But let's not think about that just yet. Check those contacts. If they do have remnants of coffee then you will have to find a way to clean that gunk out.

Exactly. Never seen anything like this before. Have disconnected and cleaned everything in out and around. Even got the hair drier and made sure was all dry.
Weird as. These are not even anything to do with the aircon, it's a stability control module actually.
The Aircon Button light flashes on and off with a definite "click" sound.
No Key in the ignition.
When I turn the aircon and then the fan button off, before turning the car off, this seems to disengage the system (as it should). Still a slow drain on the battery

This is probably going to require the services of an electrician, I'm afraid. This problem might not even be connected with this spill. Perhaps this is something simple, like a bad a/c switch, but I kinda steer clear of most electrical issues, to be honest.

Well then, that's not a good start. Daughter bought the car 3 weeks ago, got a Full Service and complete check over by the Mechanic. Supposedly not.
Almost looks like it's been flooded? All the runners and such were thick with red bull dust.
Might get the Contact Cleaner out to start

If that car was in fact flooded, then you can kiss any and all hope of it ever being gremlin free. But let's not dive into negative talk so quickly. Let's see if we can clean that out and see what happens. Is the appointment with the electrician still on?

Latest Update:
Disconnected battery terminals and put the charger on "Repair" mode for the 16 hours. Then on Charge until FULL.
Dusted down the Fuses and general box area. Assume that the fuse box was just dusty from years of previous owner NEVER cleaning his car (ie: Car hasn't been flooded)
Went through all the Main Fuses with anything related the the Aircon or Fan. The Fan still kept going with the Aircon and Auto Button Light in the Cabin still on.
So I started pulling each Fuse until the Fan turned off.
Ended up being the (PTC 40amp) Fuse (Positive Temperature Coefficient). That's the PTC Heater. Never heard of it before.
Pulled that Fuse and have left it out for now until I can inform the Auto Elec on 16 Aug.
Pulled, Cleaned and Contact Sprayed all Engine Fuses. Found some gunk in the ?BCM? wiring Terminal as well, which I also cleaned and sprayed. That had no affect on the Fan operating, but can only help in the future.
Reconnected the Battery Terminals, started the car and noticed the Aircon and Auto Button Lights are both on, without me turning them on. Turned the engine off and removed the key. All lights went off as well.
I waited 15 mins and the fan and aircon didn't power up as before.
Connected the Multi Metre to the, now connected, battery terminals and checked the voltage every hour over last night and this morning. It is holding its charge at 13.2

Summary to Date:
  • Battery restored and fully charged.
  • Most Engine Bay Fuses removed and cleaned
  • Reconnected the Battery Terminals late yesterday and connected the Multi Metre
  • Removed the (PTC 40amp) Fuse
  • Checked the Battery Amps regularly
  • Battery holding charge and Car starting now worries
  • Aircon and Auto Lights come on and turn off with Key Ignition.
  • Aircon kicking in, working and running still
  • Heater actually seems to be working ... Not strong but working ??? Doesn't feel like "Engine Running" Heat either.

Was the fuse box cover fitted, I note you have one. If the rest of the engine compartment was clean then how did the fusebox get like that unless its not dust but products of combustion from the melted fuse. Rest of the engine compartment looks quite dust free.

Moral of the story don't drink anything in the car. That cup pocket I use for the locking wheel nut socket and dusters.
