Automatic V6 Stalling...

Hi guys (and gals)...

I posted a little note hello in the Newbie section, now it's time for my 'problem.' Hopefully I'll be able to get some answers.

I was driving my 2007 V6 Mazda6 and slowed down going into a left turn. Halfway through the turn, I pressed the gas to accelerate through the intersection, but nothing happened. I slammed on my brakes (so that I wouldn't get hit by on-coming traffic) and tried to go again when the road was clear. Still nothing. At this point, confused and in the middle of an intersection, I put on my four-way flashers and started looking around. I noticed that my car was OFF. The lights on the dashboard were off. I stuck the car in park and turned it on... without a problem. I turned off my four-way flashers and proceeded through the intersection. I got to my destination without any other problems. I parked the car, turned the engine off, and turned it on again... no problem! The car has been running fine since. I brough it in to Mazda and they ran a scan, but it came out clean. I haven't had any problems since.

Any thoughts on what it could've been?

This happened once to my wife while she was driving our 05. Making a slow turn in a parking lot, the car stalled for no apparent reason. She restarted the car and went on her way. The car has not repeated this in the last year and we never got a satisfactory answer as to what happened. I'm interested to see if anybody has thoughts. I'm guessing you have an automatic?

seems like a glitch that fixed itself? ive had a cel that went on and disappeared soon enough. soo its a mazda mystery haha. but glad to hear that you did not stall in a dangerous area which was probably a few feet away

Wow. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who this happened to, but I'm a little worried about this mystery turn-off. It could be pretty dangerous. But it sounds like it only happens during slow turns. And only happens once.

Sacramento - Yeah, it's an automatic. And I didn't get a satisfactory answer from the dealership either. And I have good faith in my dealership, my family's been dealing with them for 18 years.

Hopefully it won't happen again. If it ever does, at least I know that I can put it in neutral and start it back up regardless of the speed I'm going. That's reassuring. I'd hate to lose power on the highway!

Thanks for the replies!

This happened on the Mazda3 courtesy car I had. I was going slowly on Boundary and when I tried to accelerate again, I realized the car had stalled, so maybe this isn't a problem only with the Mazda6.

CEL = check engine light

This happen to a M6 wagon loaner car I had, did a max turn into a perpendicular parking spot that was slightly inclined uphill, the engine die on me just as I was finishing the parking manuver. no cel or anything, the car die so smoothly/quietly I wouldn't have notice if I didn't see the RPM gauge drop to 0.

Do you remember the car shuddering or having rough idle at all/ever?

Nope, there was no shuddering, rough idling... nothing. It happened just as you explained it... smoothly and quietly, I didn't even notice!

My car did that three times after I bought it. I took it to the dealer and they updated my cars computer and it corrected the issue. I would take your car to the dealership and have them do the same. It's covered under warranty and actual labor takes 15 minutes.

These cars are so damn complex that they seem to have little issues pop up then dissapear. I had a cel go off one time, and didnt worry about it, it went away, and when I had my car scaned it wasnt even in the system.

I also got up one morning to go to work and my car wouldnt start. Everything worked normally, but it would just turn over. After I tried like 10 times, and about an hour later my mom tried a few more times. The tow truck guy shows up to tow it in, and poof it starts fine. Shop runs tests and finds nothing wrong, and has no idea why it wouldnt start.

Well that's reassuring![/b]
No... it's not :nana:

"Right before..." What exactly do you mean by that? Time frame please! Signs and symptoms to watch out for?[/b]

OMG freak out!

Right before as in, I was driving to work. At like 2 lights beforehand I noticed the accelerator wasn't responding as well and I had to push it down more than usual. Then in the parking lot I was in reverse, pushing it down to the floor and the car was barely moving. Parked the car. Got no CEL.

Came outside of my work to move my car b/c better spots were open. Started up fine, but still sluggish. Parked it.

Came out of work for the night, started it, weird noise from the engine, took it straight to mazda that night and dropped it off. Come Monday (2 days later) they called me up, said, "Wtf did you do to your car? Your engine has to be replaced."

Like I said... right before.

:D

AH! the mystery stall. Power Stearing GONE engine OFF car USELESS pee ON MY LEG... the mazdas have a nasty habit of stalling for really no reason. Either this happens to cars during their breakin phase, like it did to me the first week i had it, OR you may have... maybe... just a little bit... bumped the key into the off position. AH... that seems possible, because in between changing the cd and combing your hair in the mirror, you may have just given the key a lil bumb. thats what i thnk happened to me. so dont stress it, and mazdas definitely hold up to their rep- reliable, but not foolproof. fool. Just kidding. if this seems at all possible then ZING! +1. if not then good luck.

:headscrat:

anyways... i've had the mystery stall too. today i saw my rpm's fluctuate up and down then return to normal.
its gotta be the throttle body. just can't do anything cause they won't replace it unless i get a stupid cel to stay on.

Anyone get any more information on this? I have an 05 Mazda 6s, and this happened to me about 5 times so far... And recently, it seems as if my car isn't reacting right away to pressing the gas... Kinda sputters real quick, and then kicks in... I was going to switch out my plugs and fuel filter, and then found out that the fuel filter is non-servicable... I found this link, provided by SlapStick about a Service Bulletin about something similar..

Mazda Service Bulletin - 01-003/08

Seems like something similar that larryinfl mentioned in his post to this topic... He said the dealer updated his computer to fix it..

This just happened to me today. I was in bumper to bumper traffic, and when the car in front of me started to move forward and I started to follow, I realized my engine was off. There was no warning - no stuttering or rough idling until AFTER I turned the engine back on and started to go. Then it was rough at low RPMs for a while, and eventually it went away.

My 07 Mazda6S did the same thing when I had it for 2 months. Stalled twice on the same night. Took the car to the dealership and they flashed it. Hasn't stalled for the next 2.5 years. They said it might be bad gas...
