The auto-lock feature on my 2016 GT doesn't always work. What gives?

Mine does it once in a while, not sure why. Maybe door is opened before turning car off or something. Its most likely somewhere in the owners Manual. If you don't hear the beep, lock it up.
There are a couple of things I know of that will cause this behavior. The first is if you open the trunk from inside the car, it won't auto-lock the doors.
The second, and issue you're probably running into, is distance. The key fob proximity sensor is in the B-pillar of the passenger side. If you get out of the driver's side and stay near the door while you close it, the doors will lock. It took me about 3 months to finally figure this out.
However, if for example you get out and start moving away from the car while you're closing the door with your outstretched arm, it may not lock because the key fob is already out of the proximity sensor's range. This is pretty easy to do without thinking about it, especially if you're getting out of the car and already moving onto the next task.
FWIW, the solution is to slow down. Instead of rushing away from the car, stay near the driver's door as you close it.

Yes - that is what I have seen too. Don't shut the door while already moving away from the car. For me the habit now is to shut the door and then walk away. I know we are all in a rush but it starts feeling natural after a few times. It's good to slow down a bit in life ??
Same for me, both the walking away fast and opening the trunk will keep the car from locking automatically. Just close the door and then walk away.
I got impatient with this on my 3s GT. I just lock it with the request button before I walk away so I know for sure.

I disabled the auto lock because it would lock before I could make my way around to the passenger side and open the door when getting other items out. My kids would also put their stuff in the car in the mornings and once they shut the door once, they would be locked out until I unlocked it again.
Great feature, just did not work for me.
