Air conditioning cold enough?

Just wondering how other people feel about the air conditioning system in the Speed6. I took mine into the dealership, complaining that I didn't think it was blowing cold enough air and needed a recharge of the system. They told me it checked out fine...that the system in these cars is not that great to start with.

I just find that on a freaking hot day...it takes forever for it to get cool...and even then, it never feels super cold or anything. I sit in my grandfather's mercedes and will almost freeze if I put the air con on full cold.

How does everyone else feel about this?

I've had mine since last Decemeber, and I think I've turned it on once for a few minutes, and it seemed fine. I rarely use mine though...with four windows and a moonroof, I rarely see the point...

My Speed6 works better than my 2006 Mazda 6s without a doubt, but on the few really hot days I've had so far, it does take about 10-15 minutes to get really cold. I don't have tinted windows, and the car is black with black interior, so my A/C expectations are a little lower than normal.

As for comparing a Mazda6 to a Mercedes, no comparison. My boss has an Infiniti M35, and it cools off pretty quick, but A/C blowing through the seats sure helps.

My A/C works great. Use it every day. I can tell that the air isn't that cold on reg air. But when I turn it on Recirc (middle button) it really gets cold. Make sure the middle button is changed to Recirc.

I feel the same way. VERY weak and never seems to get very cold. My A4 worked WAY better.

Sitting in my friends Accord, I noticed it blew colder than my car off the fly.

Mine takes FOREVER.

Just used mine today. It gets really cold within about 4-5 minutes. However, I do turn my compressor on for at least 15 minutes every month to keep it from loosing charge. Outside temps today were reading (on amb setting) 97 degrees. My car is titanium with the black cloth. Tint is 32%.

My son's 98.5 CSVT & my wife's '06 Zephyr are colder.... Dealer told me mine is fine, I can live with it. :sarc:

Some people don't like to get their hair messed up and when it is 97 degrees and 90% humidity, no amount of window opening (especially stuck in traffic) is going to be comfortable.

Of course you will never find anything wrong with your car though.

You sound bitter. I never used my A/C in my previous car either, and I don't live in the south where it's hot/humid most of the year. I'm sorry if it bothers you that I don't use my A/C or haven't had any problems with my car.

I agree, if I lived in a hotter climate, and had a long drive to work where I was stuck in traffic, I'd probably use it, but I don't. I have a 11 mile drive to work...takes me all of 10-15 minutes.

As for the hair, try opening the back windows and leaving the fronts closed.

Oh wait, you probably would just prefer to complain about something instead... :nana:

Lighten up man...

This thread is worthless if you don't look at locations... Someone up in oregon or on the coast where it MIGHT be 90ish... with cool winds... is going to be a lot different than... say.. myself where it was 110 here .. no wind.. and you could swim in the heat/smog...

FYI... The AC works best when the engine is at like 3000+ rpms.. if you idle the vehicle... the compressor isn't being worked as hard and won't be as cool... stop-n-go traffic is TERRIBLE for A/C and terrible on the engine... which sucks because when youre at freeway speed you can usually turn the AC off and use the wind... and save MPG....

Anyway... usually one of the few bonuses you get for paying 80-120k on a BMW or something similar.. is you get better climate control.

Mine works quite well, I've been much more pleased with the system in the speed6 than my 04 mazda3.

Today I think it was 90 in DC with 90 humidity or so and it cooled right down.

yea i also rarley used mine. I think i put it on the first day i got it just to check if it worked cause i have had problems with a/c's before with my 6s and it did not get fixed till the 4th time going to the dealership.

No complaints here either, but I live in Canada and have underground parking at work 10 minutes from home. Although I know for a fact that my buddy's 05 Subaru feels like it couldn't cool an ice cube on a winter's day. So just like with anything else, there are better and worse cars out there. If the dealer says that it's up to spec and you're still not happy, take it to a different dealer. If you run out of dealers and still losing your cool, ask for a spin in another speed6 on the lot and see how it compares to your own.

Best of luck :).

I can't complain about mine. I live in Texas. While our summer has been mild so far, it has been hot enough to require A/C for about the last month. The air is cold enough that I have to direct the vents away from me or raise the temperature setting after about 10 minutes. I usually keep my climate control set to automatic and just change the temperature setting, so my A/C is on almost constantly.

R12 was better at cooling that R123A seems to be. The MS6 does seem a little weak in the A/C department though, but not too terribly bad.

We had a 1977 Plymouth Fury that would ice up the dash vents. Had to run the heater in conjunction with the A/C to keep frost off the dash! :)

If you want it really cold set it to recirculate.

When you bring in the outside air, it's actually hotter then ambient due to the warm nature of the engine bay.

Same here, with tinted windows I keep my front windows down all the time. I rarely use my A/C, basically only if it's raining and I have to keep my windows up.

I'm completely happy with mine. This is my 2nd summer (bought it Jun'06) and I haven't regretted buying an all black interior ( like I thought I would). Here in Sacramento, CA, we're in the 90's/100's from May to Sept so I'm running my A/C constantly. The AC cools down the car down in just a few minutes even after baking in the sun all day. I use AUTO set to 73/74 and have medium tint in the rear (28% IIRC). Now the wife's Murano is another story even with Limo tint... :swearin:

yah i wasent crazy about the AC either but like the OP i came from a mercedes before this car and when it was on low (50 DegF) you couldent hold your hand infront of the vent because of the temp so i suppose i was a bit spoiled.

Coming from 2 Accords a will concur that the MS6 take a lot longer to get cold. The accord was black with black leather and no tints, but it would get cold atleast 5-10minutes faster then the Mazda. I have to say that it is pretty dis-appointing compared to almost every other car out there. Funny that this thread starts during a heat wave where we all really need our ACs. :irate:
