2017 Mazda6 Infotainment question

My 2016 Mazda6 Sport is in the shop (nothing major) and they put me in a 2017 Mazda6 Touring as a loaner. Not a big deal, but the first thing I noticed was the infotainment system is a little different. I checked the version number and it's 59.xxxxxx. Last I checked, the latest 2016 version was 55.xxxxx. Is there a way to update the 2016 infotainment model to the 59.xxxxx version?

General upgrade instructions are available via the infotainment index over at the mazda3 forums. It's the same system as ours.

Index for Infotainment Project - 2004 to 2016 Mazda 3 Forum and Mazdaspeed 3 Forums

However, it doesn't look like they've updated the index to include 59.x yet, probably because it's either very recently released or no one has been able to get their hands on the install packages.

If you want yours updated, just ask the dealer and they can do it for you. However, be aware that in 56.x Mazda made changes to the OS configuration, many of which appear to be designed to keep us locked out of the OS - which makes applying tweaks, etc that you see in that infotainment index much more difficult.

It's unlikely that Mazda backed down from this GTFO position in 59.x. We won't know for sure until we can get our hands on the install package and figure out what they changed.

I have noticed that they changed/broke last music source. It used to go back to the last used source in 55.x. Now it goes back to CD between startups.

Has anyone noticed the infotainment system lag on startup? Especially if you have an iPhone connected to it? Mine is constantly lagging. When I start the car and throw it into reverse the camera is either delayed or won't pop up. Just the Mazda splash screen stays on the display. If this happens the system will usually reboot. Pretty annoying. Is there any place to check to see what the latest version of the software running is?

I have a 2017 6 GT signature and that lag on startup happens to me ALL THE TIME as well. VERY FRUSTRATING. I went to the dealer and they said my software is up to date (as of last month), and the lag is because the system is new. I think that's a crap excuse. It's not a pair of shoes that need to be broken in. It's a COMPUTER! Anyway, been looking all over for a fix and can't seem to find anyone with the same issue until you. I love the car otherwise. I ha e the same problem with the reverse camera as well. I start up, put it in reverse and go and half the time I don't have the backup screen functioning.

Sorry about the rant.

Hm.. there is lag but not that much. Might be worth to re-install the entire firmware. For the reverse camera - that's a on a different input - so if the screen goes blank, that indicates a sensor or camera issue - or worse connection issue.

Hey Guys. I traded in my 2016 Mazda 6 GT for a 2017 Mazda 6 GT Premium. The only issue I had with the 2016 infotainment system was occasionally it would not load my navigation. I would get an error saying that this car doesn't have navigation. Something like that, and i just restart my car and it would be fine.

Since driving my 2017 M6 GT I noticed that it seems much more laggy. I will move the command dial and it wont change on the screen. Also, ive had the unit restart while driving. IT seems like the reboot took way longer too.

Not sure if this is hardware issue or firmware. I would bet its something with the firmware.

My car is running version: 59.00.330. Does anyone know if this is the latest version of the software?

They increased the resolution between 2016 and 2017. So my guess is the refresh rate maybe lagging due to the increased load in the video processor. Maybe working on the edge of its capability- maybe.

The system in my 2017 M6 is def wacky. Tonight the system rebooted itself about 5 minutes after the car started up. Then about and hour later on another drive I put the car in reverse and on the screen I got an error message for about 10 seconds that said something like "Backup camera is currently unavailable". During that same drive I got a call, it didn't display the name or number of the person calling. Then my nav wouldn't work. It was just a black screen that still showed the next cross street. No Map, or anything else.

The radio screen was fine, so was the settings and communication screens.

After 2 weeks with this car this system has been way wonkier than my 2016. I am really hoping this is firmware and not a hardware issue.

I don't have experience with a 2016. I do feel my 2017 is pretty slow to start. With nav booting up and my phone pairing, it takes about 20-30s for the system to respond normally without lagging. Usually it's OK because I am reversing or finding my way out of a parking lot for this amount of time. I will ask the dealer about this at my first service.

In order to avoid the automatic contacts import process every time my phone connected to the car, I manually downloaded my contacts to the car and disabled the auto-import feature. This might have sped up the boot process by a few seconds, but not much more.

I think my iPhone might be to blame. When I start the car and have my phone on me, the car tries to connect and sync to my phone. When I turn Bluetooth off I don’t notice the problems as much but this could be because I constantly have the Bluetooth on. Really annoying and wish there was a fix. Such an awesome car, really sucks that when these small annoying issues pop up.

I have a 2016 and the one (small) issue I have is no images load on right side of screen for XM radio. FM loads fine and all I get on XM is an empty square. I called Serius XM and they had no idea. Any ideas?

I've seen a couple of other threads on this. As near as I can tell from my research here and on other Mazda forums, station logos and album art just don't work on XM. I also don't think it works for bluetooth audio streaming (direct, not through Pandora for example). Since it works for FM, it seems to me that Connect is definitely capable of doing so and it would sure be a nice touch if they'd add it.
