Worked for me, been running without the DRLs for a month now. There's a YouTube tutorial on how to do it exactly on a Mazda 3 which works for our 2018 6 as well. I can just say that you must do each step quickly and continuously.

Hmm...

I guess I'll check out the YouTube vid, then try it (again) on my 6...

Can you post a link to that video? I can't seem to find any that do not tell you to just pull a fuse.

Thanks.

FINALLY got this working yesterday. Apparently, I wasn't doing it quickly enough the first times I tried it, but the vid definitely helped.

It's nice not seeing my lights on the rear of the car in front of me all the time...

Did it turn all the front lights off or just the headlight part of the DRLs?

Grr. Looks like I won't be doing that, then. I wonder how the other markets get just the parking lights on for DRLs?

I feel the same, I'd also only like to have the halo lights on for DRL.

I'm guessing because the lower trims use just the headlamp as the DRL (since they don't have the halos).

You can turn them off, then run with the parking lights on...

Having the halos be DRLs instead of the head lights should definitely be an option. The problem though is the halos just aren't bright enough, regardless if the headlights or parking lights are on (assuming DRLs deactivated). This is why I basically ended up reenabling mine. What's the point of the halos if you can hardly see them during the day? :(
What I've discovered though is the halos are PWM'd so they technically could be brighter, but I don't think there's any way to adjust the PWM.

EDIT:
I partially take back what I said about the PWM. The actual halo ring around the lens is not PWM'd it appears, so this could be hardwired to it's brightness level or maybe adjustable via other means but I doubt it. The horizontal accents to the left and right of the lens are PWM'd though probably to match the "brightness" of the halo ring.

Attached a screen grab of the European review where it was halos only. It looks so good!

I think you're right. Does your trim have the halos? I can't recall if the halos are a Signature trim thing only.

Considered doing the driving lights thing you mentioned, but then it sort of negates having the auto headlights as I would have to remember to turn the headlights on when driving at night...so too many cons and not enough pros.

Oh well.

Yes. Reserve and Signature trims get the halos. My avatar shows my headlamp at night with the turn signal on also.

On clear days, I keep them off. I should be seen just as fine as I can see other cars.

When I have the wipers on (rain, snow, etc.), I kick on the parking lights (without the DRL). The halos are bright enough to be seen in daylight, and the tail lamps are lit (which is IMO the MORE IMPORTANT reason why lights should on with wipers anyway...)

Again, this is my opinion, but DRLs are all but useless. On clear days, if you can't see a car coming at you, you shouldn't be driving, since your vision is well beyond legally blind at that point. They also won't get a distracted driver's attention, because in all fairness, besides an actual collision, NOTHING will. That smartphone is just too powerful a brain drainer. As for bad weather, if your wipers are on, turn on ALL your lights, just like at night, since it's just as difficult seeing the back of your car (from water being kicked up or poor visibility in general) as the front.

And again, this is all Common Sense to me, yet it seems to elude so many others...

An interesting feature that I discovered after a while on my 2018, regarding headlights and wipers...

"If the headlight switch and the windshield wiper switch are in auto, and the wipers are operated at low or high speed by the auto wiper control for several seconds, bad weather conditions are determined and the headlights may be turned on."

I don't think that was a feature on my 2nd gen.

You're right. It wasn't.

However, when I first tried them out, it took a loooooooong time after the auto wipers went onto low before the lights went on. Way too long for my comfort level. After a few different tries, I gave up and just kick the lights on myself.

I've driven recent Ford and Chrysler rentals that had the lights go on almost immediately after you flipped the wipers to the intermittent setting. That, IMO, should be standard equipment across all make and model lines.
