Seat headrest. Is it me?

I have touring model. Seats is OK but I started to notice that headrest really annoys me. I like to lean my head back a little and it's on my way. I can't seem to push it back.

Today I drove with my wife and she noticed the same.

Do you guys have this problem? Is there any way to adjust headrest back?

I don't think the head rest is adjustable forward and backward but just up and down. What you can do is take the dead rest off and reverse it, basically put it in backwards and that should give you more room.

I would say recline the seat back a little. Cars normally have the tilt forward for whiplash protection/neck protection in rear crashes. Ford's used to have it really bad (I believe in the Flex)

I wouldn't take any material out because that would seriously take the safety out of it. The car was designed and tested with that stuff in there to protect your head. Did you try putting the thing in backwards?

Have you fiddled with the lumbar support? If you have it loose, your spine will curve to the seat and thus change the position of your head. If you tighten the lumbar support, your back will be in a more upright calibration and this adjustments to head space. Also, you could try going into the dealership and sitting in different models (3, CX5 . . .) and see if their HR is any better. If it is, I am fairly certain the support hole distance is the same so might try to swap.

You can also try using the HR from the back seats. These have a different molding and might work better with your comfort issues. GL

I forgot about lumbar support. That might help. I will try it for sure! Thank for reminding.

I had BMW 540 with comfort seats. Those had back curve adjustable and were just perfect for the back, slightly lacking in thight support though. Best seat was in 94 Audi S4 (Recaro). I was able to take 12hr drive with no issue.

Problem with Mazda seats definitely solvable because otherwise I feel pretty good in them. Just headrest.

You should be able to bend the bars to have it adjusted back about an inch. I believe Gajdzin (if I spelled that right) had it done on his before he picked it up.

I think they're perfect. I don't need to put my head back. The lumbar support does keep your back a bit forward though, so that may help.

I'd just rather not get major whiplash if I ever got into an accident. The Sales people do say that the headrests do bother some people though. I guess it depends on your driving posture.

Well. They do bother me. A lot. I can't drive for more than 10 minutes, get's very annoying. But bending definitely is a good options and I'm going to do it!!

Whiplash should be not a problem, my head will be right there anyway.

They're not head rests, they're head restraints. I wouldn't mess with them if I were you unless you want to risk serious injury in an accident. Yes, they could be more comfortable. But I've sat in seats with much less comfortable restraints before. The 6 is about average in this respect IMO.

Some pricier cars have active head restraints that move forward in a crash but are positioned more comfortably otherwise. This is a relatively affordable car so I'm not surprised they didn't make the cut.

It's not uncomfortable, it's to the point where I have neck pain after 15 minute drive. I will take my chances, but it will be OK since I drive with my head rested pretty much all the time.

I did bend it and it's much much better now.

No pictures. I took it off and bent each post. Put it into vice, jaws should be holding post at most top position. And then just firmly push to bend post. Takes some force.

Repeat for second post.

Reinstall.
