question about clutch fluid

while my new clutch is grabbing great, I'm noticing a sorta sluggish feeling when I push the clutch in at speed occasionally...when I start the car, the clutch feels fine, real smooth when I depress it, but some times on the uptake it feels kinda squishy. I don't think it's the actual clutch, I was thinking maybe that the fluid might be low, have bubbles etc.....since that had to replace the clutch assembly, they might have not filled it completely. I believe our clutch and brake fluid tap the same reservoir correct? Any thoughts on this? Should I bleed out the system and replace the fluid? Where is the drain plug?

It could have air in the hydraulic system. There is no "drain". To get the air out you'll need to have a helper open and close the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder (or have a vacuum pump for one man bleeding) as you operate the clutch pedal. Make sure resevoir doesn't get too low during the process.

any idea where I find the bleeder screw? is it under the car?

I thought I have heard somewhere that the clutch uses the same fluid as the brakes...

Is this right or I'm day-dreaming?

Or maybe it was on my old 'tour...

sweet, I missed that the last time. thanks man.

Have you looked at it yourself? Is there that bleed nipple thing there? I remember seeing the tubing curled up like a spring in my V6, is that part of the tranny?

I don't have a 6 yet, so I haven't been able to look at it in person. But, it should be like every car out there with a hydraulic clutch, and have that same nipple on the slave cylinder.

I'm not positive why the tubing is curled up like that. But I would guess it's either (A) absorbs clutch vibration that is transmitted to the fluid, so that less vibes are felt in the pedal (don't know how solid that theory is, though); or perhaps (B) it's intended to act a bit of a radiator and provide some cooling for the clutch fluid.

Regardless, the layout and functioning should be very similar to what you see in the step-by-step directions on that Subaru web page I provided the link to.
