Get a complete itemized quote, and a non-bullshit time estimate from whoever you pick upfront before you commit. Do your research! I would suggest you look into some local engine builders as well.

Personally, id suggest you buy the parts yourself and then choose someone to put it together for you. Mark @ StreetUnit gave me an excellent deal on parts, i shopped around too. I suggest you do the same.

For wiseco pistons/pauter rods , new bearings, complete gasket set, thrust washer, and ARP main/head studs its right around $1900 just for the parts. You also need to find a used block/crank or a new block/crank. (assuming you have a hole in your block and your cylinder head is fine)

Factor in costs for cleaning/machining a used block/head and for assembly add in another sizeable chunk of change.

Lots of people also do a clutch while they have the engine out ,i got my ACT street clutch/flywheel new for $630 shipped

nonono - no details needed.

Engine is fine - just wanting to build a new one before, well, you know...

Thanks JJ for the numbers on the hard parts - I need to start getting some prices for the machine work etc. I'll be doing the r&r so hopefully that'll save a chunk of change.

Being on the west coast I don't think P3 is really a viable option since shipping will cost a small fortune.

hit up Andrew over at Gillis Motorsports in Morgan Hill....he might be able to point you in at least a direction locally if you want. He works with F2 down here often as well, and F2's put together speed engines so far now, but they are with parts from other companies...though they have a few things on their way now. Shoot F2 and emails and see what their thoughts are on it maybe, as i know his hands are full too.

Ide personally buy the parts and have them shipped to you. Ive gone the prebuilt engine route and ill never do that again.

I good tip to find a good engine builder is to log onto a local racing forum and ask the guys on there who is building the best race engines and then goto the shop and talk to the guy and check out his equipment and actual race experience. Thats how I found mine and I am very happy with him, and he isnt listed in the phone book and works out of his back yard.
