It's cool until somebody hacks it and puts some start codes on the internet. Wouldn't be happy having my car jacked like that.

 

Durability? I would be concerned the USB drive and port would break a lot earlier than an ignition lock or key, and be more difficult and expensive to replace (as well as give little warning, leaving a driver stranded).

Well I assume it will be alot more durable than your average USB drive. Also probably won't look exactly like current ones either.

As far as hackability, I woulde expect tough encryption to be used, just as encryption is used on anytime for any type of access to sensative or valuable material. People have made the same argument over RFID key fobs, yet lexus and Mercedes use them on new models, and more companies are moving this way.

I think the fact that you can put music on your 'key" and tune it through the stereo is cool.

 

I Love it....now all they need is wireless networking built into the car and we can get PCM updates when we bypass a Mazda dealer.

 

That would be a cool feature. Be no need to wait in the crowed lobby for your car to be serviced.

 

What if someone plugs in & transfer a virus to your car?

 

Call me old-fashioned, but I don't really see an advantage to this versus the current radio keys with memory ability in the car itself.

I guess I'm against change merely for its own sake.

 

Eh...they should just do the keyless thing that Lexus touts so much. As long as you have it on you, you can open the doors and trunk and start the car.

 

so whats gonna stop people from breaking in, bringing in their laptops and hacking into the car to steal it?
