Hello. I hope I have the proper forum to ask this question. My mazda 6s broke down on the hwy the other day losing power and it was not able to accelerate above 30 mph. The TA-Transaxle light came on and it bucked when finally stopped. The dealer has several ecm codes that came up including the throttle body and manifold (I do not have all of the codes yet from them). They said that the entire manifold needs to be replaced and apparently in the mazda 6s this includes catalytic converter(s), 02 sensor, etc... they say the part alone is $900. I cannot find this on the web, does this sound correct? Also they will need to replace throttle body. I read plenty about this topic in the forums and there is an SB on it. Overall they said 2 grand and that does not guarantee we will fix all of the issues. opinions? anyone else have this happen? Car has high miles 120k. also recently replaced 3 of 6 coil packs.

I assume you're talking about the exhaust manifold, but yeah 900 for that doesn't sound unrealistic for a dealership price if it includes the cats. Send a PM to Tiffany @ Showcase, she will be able to get you the best price on the parts, just try to have part numbers for her, it helps. If you can do the installs yourself you could save some money, or at least order parts from Tiffany and have them shipped to the dealer and save from that aspect. I am kind of confused as to why they are replacing exhaust/intake components when your transaxle light came on though....Make sure you get the codes before they do anything.

Thanks for the reply. I am confused on that aspect as well. Based on what I have seen I thought about the throttle body right away, then they came up with all of this manifold stuff. I will ask for all of the codes.

why in gods name would they have to replace the Manifolds? ur car bucked then stalled. sound like a TB issue not manifold.

all the manifold does is route the gases to the exhaust.

sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

how many miles are on ur car? whats year is it. u could have one of those defective TB's

2 words "Plugged Precats"..... (OK,2 1/2 ;) )

Unfortunately, not an uncommon problem for a high mileage 6S. Since they are part of the exhaust manifold, your engine can be un-runnable if they get plugged up bad enough. :swearin:

Yea i am right there with you I was at the dealer last week for a check engine light, they told me that it was a misfire on #4. Then on Sunday morning it came on again. This is a Mazda 6s 2004. I received the car back yesterday night and it appears to be fine just like the other dozen times I went in. They reflashed the computer and changed the coil again. I had a tech tell me that I do indeed have a bad intake manifold and that Mazda doesn't want to do anything about it. i have had this problem for years and now that I am closing in on the end of my warranty they really don't want to do anything
