Heel toe shifting is when you come into a turn braking, downshifting, and giving gas all at the same time to match the rpms so that you can come out of the turn going as fast as possible in the shortest amount of time. Generally, it works better on cars that have the proper sport gas pedal (looks like it's coming out of the floor and is long and goes straight up as opposed to the 6's which comes from above your toe and is a small pedal). However, that being said it can still be done, but not easily. When braking into a turn, downshift with your left foot on the clutch as usual and your right on the brake.
Next you need to keep your TOE on the brake and swing your heel (yes heel) over to the gas and blip the throttle so the rpms match and you get a smooth downshift as opposed to a rough bumpy one. You'll see what I mean when I say the 6's gas pedal is not meant for heel toe shifting.

You can definately heel toe in a stock '6, but you're right that the gas pedal isn't great for it. I recommend putting a clamp-on gas pedal over the factory one so that it sits flush with the brake pedal.

I heel toe not using my toe and heel, but by using the right and left edges of my foot. I'm not sure how you'd actually use your heel on the gas pedal of this car... unless you've got wierd shaped feet and are unordinarily flexible. The terms "heel and toe" stems from when old racing cars actually had the gas pedal over the brake pedal, thus they'd actually use their heel and toe. The term isn't an accurate desciption of which parts of the foot you use on a modern pedal system where the pedals are side by side.

i have the autovation pedals, it extends it out about 1 inch? depend on how u mount it, u can mount it all the way over but it would suck for daily driving, i mount it right on top, and it extended out about a little less than one inch so i wouldnt hit the gas when i am breaking during normal driving.

and wow, this changed EVERYTHING, granted i am not that good for a heel and toe downshifter, it has improved me because i wouldnt have to twist all the way, also i can do the same with what strech said about heel and toe downshift.. using the left and right side of my foot by putting the left side of my foot to brake, and right side to apply gas.

i suggest you to just try playing with heel and toe with the car off, play wit the clutch, gas, brake a little before you actually takes it to the street. after you feel you are ok with your practice, go to a empty parking lot and try it at low speeds. the real thing is always harder.
