NP guys, I just looked at the wiring diagram from the shop manual, it tells you what each pin is for.

How to remove it is on the link I posted at the beginning, I just didn't want to redo the whole thing again...lol

Yes, the volume works with the steering wheel but nothing else, you want to set the volume at 75% on the ipod and you are good, after that you control the volume with the steering wheel. There are places that sell the mounting brackets that would give you easy access for the ipod right next to the stereo.

Nice work OP... did the mod, and it works great.. I guess I will have to go back in and install a quick disconnect connector, just in case I need to pull it apart in the future.

does anyone know what the other connector on the back of the HU does? i have sirius now and im wondering how i can use both at the same time.

you might be able to connect to something else, but there are no more programmed inputs, from what I understand.. unless you figure out how to get to EX1-6, which is essentially CD input that is used by audiolink and some other devices. It comes up when you hit CD button twice.

I only have 2 connectors, one for the main harness and the other one the one that I used... Unless you have a different model.. or maybe you have the stock Nav... I dunno, Even the audiolink tells you you can't use it if you have sirius because it needs to be plugged in to the same connector...

Im pretty sure i have the right cd rom cables but can you just take a pic from the top of the female pins. i havnt took about my stereo yet and wanna make sure i have everything just so i dont make any extra trips to the store. thanks

Just finishing doing this. Works amazing!!! Better than paying over $100. I used the cd audio wire and a audio jack from an old portable cd player i found. I might buy a usb car adapter to charge the ipod. Very easy to do.

Thanks Chisss!!!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much. I just got done mine. Granted i need to pull apart and dremel it some and get a 90 degree plug but for right now its perfect.

Chisss great job my man! Works perfect. I have a couple of add ons if anyone cares. I made the cables on mine a little longer and left the 3.5mm jack below the shifter/cover piece. I then ran my 3.5mm cable under both pieces towards the back of the car and up the holes which are at the bottom of the center storage and kept in there for when I don't to have the ipod out. This way the cable stays nice and hidden.

Chisss, here is another thought based on your work, I have an ipod cable which has the dock connector on one end and the other is multiple: Audio/Video and USB. Could I use the wires from this cable Audio L/R to go to the Head Unit (HU) and then splice the USB wires to add power to the cable, this way your ipod would output thru the dock connector and also get charged. I'm pretty sure I can do the audio, and possibly join the power to the extra 12v outlet inside the storage compartment. The power would need to come down to the USB std of 5v.

If anyone has more input in this please let me know. I do have the pinouts for the Apple dock connector.

PS does anyone has access to the 2002 MPV manual? I would love to do this for my wife's car!

Nice work, chisss!! And coastieMS6, if you have the dock pinout, could you send it my way, please? I think I finally found a better fate for my old H/K Drive+Play than selling it on craigslist for tree-fiddy....

Of course i went to radio shack and they dont have the correct part.
But i picked this one up.. Can anyone tell me if this will work? It says its 3 conductor but i have no idea where to connect the wires to. Any help would be great.. Thanks

Attached is the pinout and what's what... I hope that helps! and keep us posted![/b]
Thanks, but I was asking Coastie about the apple dock pinout. ;)

That should work. It's essentially the same thing, but what it does is like when you plug headphones into a boombox. The signal to the amplifier passes in series through this kind of jack. When you insert a 3.5mm plug, it breaks the path of the signal and sends it to the headphones instead of letting it pass onto the amplifier. Basically, it turns the loudspeakers off automatically when you use headphones.

You can still use this, you just need to know which pins to use and which to leave alone. I would venture to guess that Pin 2 is your Left + (the tip), Pin 5 is you Right + (the ring), and Pin 1 is your combined L/R - (the sleeve). Pins 3 and 4 would be used as pass-throughs on a boombox like I'd mentioned.

What you have the potential of doing with this connector, though, is wiring a 2nd source in if you wanted. If, say, you have satellite radio, you could hardwire its audio output to pins 1, 3, and 4 (1 being the common ground for everything), and connect 1, 2, and 5 like normal. Then you'd have constant satellite radio piped in, and when you plug your connector from your ipod into this jack, THAT source will take over. When you unplug it, it will default back to your satellite.

Make sense?
