Just managed to get this working on my Mazda6 '06.

I found an old computer case and cut the USB wires and soldered them as necessary.

The hardest bit I found to be taking out the center console. All the guides out there mention how easy it should come out but it was near impossible for me. I needed to point a screwdriver all the way to the end of the cupholder to loosen the tab on the passenger side. The rest easily followed.

The pinout diagram posted earlier on page 5(?) or so was incredibly helpful thanks!

I've read through every post here and want to ask a question.

I have a 2005 with bose, not only does it have the button for MD/Tape, but also Sat.

I see that a few 2005 owners used the wiring diagram for the 2006+ and didn't have luck which would be incorrect because the pinout is different.

Not sure what page I got this on, but this... http://forum.mazda6club.com/attachm.../mazdaspeed6/71391d1239249253-how-3-5mm-stereo-bose-system-wiring_diagram_2.jpg is what was loaded on here showing the 2005 /w bose.

My question is, has anyone tried shorting the aux (which one?) to ground, like the 2006+ but using the proper pins, and had sucess in fooling the unit into thinking something was plugged into the port in the back that would then be switched to using the "Sat" button?

Thanks in advance!

this is awesome!!! i just ordered a 3.5mm to Bluetooth adapter from eBay and once i have the 3.5 plug installed like you did ill just plug the adapter in and use the Bluetooth A2DP connection to my iPhone :D or at least that's the plan!

hi all, i found this for older mazda stereos ('97 mazda protege)

Car Stereo iPod input

just wondering if this method will work for 2003 models (obviously the cd changer pinout is different than the link above, but i believe it to be the same as post #36)

he connects the acc 12v DC to the AUX pin by means of a switch with a 1Kohm resistor in series which fools the unit into thinking there's a line-in connected. does this make sense to anybody with respect to connecting the AUX in pin 13 to ground? what is the difference?

my stereo is the 2193 model shown here:

I too finally did this. $10 from radio shack plus an ethernet cable I had lying around. Great mod and I can finally use my iPod in my car! Thank you 6club!

Doing this mod tomorrow. As above poster did this with old ethernet cable and stuff I had laying around. Can't wait to ditch the cd book from the car and forget about the boring radio in the mornings on the way to work. Thanks to the OP for figuring this out. Seems like he made a lot of people quite happy.

Hi, Im new to the forum... Just joined because of this topic because its soo good. I have a UK Mazda 6 TS2 2.0L Bose System (55 Reg, but 2006 Registered). I wanted to know if it would work in the UK Model and what type of crimps would I need.

Im young and inexperienced in DIY, but the instructions are clear, just need help mainly on what type of crimps I need, because here in the UK, they have crimps which are hollow from one end to insert a cable and then turn into pins. Would sawing(cutting) the pin tip allow me to insert it into the pins at the back of the stereo. what type of cable do I need to connect pin 1 and 13. Would like a speaker cable work? (Im a noob).

Thanks in advance :)

Just started looking into this today. I am a computer guy and have a bunch of old boxes laying around. I found that some of the cases have a 4 pin connector for the usb ports (many have an 8 pin connector with one filled in). This fits perfect for this as well, I used the 4 pin for 1-3-5-7 and a 1 pin off the power switch wire on the same case for the 13 pin. Fits like a glove, just have to solder and wrap everything up and figure out where I want to drill the hole for the jack.

I just did a version of this mod this past week. I had a few unexpected surprises, and I ended up not putting a jack in the dash, but instead hard wiring a cable with a 3.5 plug and running it through the shifter tunnel and up into the center console. I pulled several one and two pin connectors from an old computer and as stated before, they are a perfect fit.

The first issue I ran across is due to the fact that I have nav. I was never able to figure out how to disconnect the wiring that runs to the remote on the trim piece around the shifter, so I had to work with the piece just hanging there. A little awkward, but doable. Also, I haven't seen this mentioned, but the white plastic shroud that goes around the light bulb that needs to be removed covers up a good part of the area around the lighter, which is where it seems everyone has been mounting their input jack. How did you guys work around that? I was never able to come up with a solution, which is why I decided to relocate and use a hard wired cable.

Anyway, I'm happy with how mine turned out. I ran the cable up through some vent holes in the bottom of the console, then up through the existing cable access do-hickey. I then just run the cable out through the front of the top console cover (there is some room when it closes so the cover doesn't press on the cable) and keep it between the console and the passenger seat so it readily available whenever I need it. Or I could just coil it up and keep it in the top console if I weren't going to use it for a while.

So finally, thanks to all who have contributed to this subject on this site as well as MSF and another one I found which gave me the idea to use the hard wired cable. Hope this helps anyone else who plans to do this.

I have a mazda 6s 2003 and I think I have a way do this mod. I made a phone call to the manufacturer of these bose 6 disc changers and got the guy to send me the pin outs of all the connectors on the back of my cd changer. I am going to try this mod today, using the Tape/MD button. If it works ill write up some instructions.

Did this mod in my 06 Speed6 and it works like a charm! Sound quality is just as good as it was when I had the Mazda iPod adapter installed (which sucks by the way, could NEVER figure out how to get the steering wheel controls to work properly).

Pretty much the 1st and least expensive mod I would recommend doing to make spending long drives more enjoyable. And since it works with any sort of MP3 player that has a headphone jack you're not limited like all the other iPod adapter kits.

Just an FYI, since this thread keeps being revived by the noobies. You will not have surround sound through all your speakers from this. For me, only the front two speakers had sound output. I would reccomend an ipod hookup or other such device for aux, which is under a hundred bucks...if you care much about sound quality

Care to provide any links to threads here or products available to hook up a 3.5 aux jack? I'm not an apple fanboy, so ipod hookup doesn't help me. I did some looking around before I did my mod and only things I found were FM modulators. I've made that mistake before - absolutely horrible sound quality.
