What's up guys. Lately I've been driving and I noticed this kind of oil burning smell. It's weird because it isn't that strong. I might get like a little whiff here and there but it definitely smells like burnt oil. I have about 120k miles on it. I do have a bad throttle body that I'm going to replace it hopefully this month. Has anyone experienced this?

My 2003 has this same problem but only under heavy acceleration. My throttle body was clogged but cleaned before I bought it and I took a peek inside it and did notice it was extremely filthy (but not for 140,XXX miles). Maybe that is the problem but I'm just learning how this car functions so I'm not really the person to ask, but I thought I would throw me two cents in. :)

Do you have any check engine lights? Check to make sure your front bank valve cover hose is properly attached. Also, make sure to check your PCV valve, and the hose as these two are a known problem in out v6's.

Are you constantly checking your oil level? If so has it gone down recently and how much did you have to add to fill? And if not, then I highly suggest you start. Also although unlikely, look closely for oil on the driveway and in parking places.

Yeah with my 6 it just smells like burnt oil, but I changed my oil about 2,700 miles ago and haven't had to add oil once. But I do occasionally get that smell with no CEL on what so ever.

That could be a factor with my car, since I have a bad theottle body with the Throttle CEL, when the car delays in changing gears (automatic) that's when the smell comes, but then vanishes after a little while

The only CEL's i have refer to my bad throttle body. I have not checked my oil. I did see like a wet spot when I parked my car, and I seen some liquid on the floor with a dunkin donuts cup next to it, I wasn't sure if it was the car or the coffee so I dismissed it. I will however check it out. I get off work at 10pm. If indeed i see oil spots in the parking spaces, what does that mean?

It means you are losing your oil by it leaking from the outside of the engine, not burning it inside the engine. Which can be a good thing depending on where it's coming from, as it is probably a seal or gasket, not a defective piston or ring. Just monitor your oil level closely, and always keep a quart or 2 in the car.

Aye man sorry I forgot to get back to you. So I checked the oil levels on the engine. It's still at its max. I forgot to mention that I actually seen a wet ground like underneath where you put gas. But even that I haven't noticed anything strange about my gas wasting too quick.

Glad I'm not the only one man lol. I honestly never had any issues with my 2003 Mazda 6, besides my water tensioner belt (which I did the bypass) and then my TB. I wonder if this could be the coil packs.

My v6 is a leaker. Pennzoil High Mileage oil helped slow the leaks a little, but ATP AT-205 Reseal did an excellent job. I was leaking about 1 quart per 1000 miles and its now been greatly reduced after adding a bottle.

Also, check your PCV valve to make sure the crankcase is evacuating pressure properly. If it is not, the oil will blow out your seals since it has nowhere else to go.

If your leaks aren't bad, give a high mileage oil a try. They're all pretty good. Maxlife, Pennzoil, M1, etc.
