So I just had the worst dealer experience of my life!
I went to QEW Mazda to have a tech look at my CV boots because there was a clicking sound coming from my wheel and there was a minute amount of heavy grease on both the left and right inner boots. The tech couldn’t duplicate the issue but still recommended all sorts of corrective actions which included replacing the boot clamp. I agreed to the clamp because I’d rather catch a CV shaft issue early so I don’t end up buying a brand new shaft.

Two weeks pass and I’m getting my wheels balanced and the tech brings me in to tell me that my CV boot (same one “repaired” by QEW Mazda) is spraying grease all over the wheel well. SO I bring my car back in and their tech looks it over and claims that the clamp is tight despite the fact that he can move it along the shaft with no problem. They don’t fix it on the spot but decide that it should be monitored and inspected after a week and I agreed. I drove 5km and looked at it and it continued to spray grease everywhere!

So I’m back at the dealer the next day and they are replacing the clamp again and I’ve asked to be there for the installation. Not only did the tech squeeze more grease out of the boot but he didn’t replace any of the grease lost during the first installation! On top of that the tech decided to secure the clamp with a screwdriver and his body weight and slipped more than once which has torn my CV boot and is still leaking grease.

I’ve been trying to contact the service manager all day but I’ve been given the run around by being told that she is in a meeting, is on the phone or even that she is away for the day. Eventually I get an email back from her saying that she has been heard my voicemails and that they refuse to service my car and if I call back they will charge me with harassment! Eventually the general manager phones me and says that they won’t pay for the boot that was ruined by their techs but will refund the money for the work that they did. By this point I’m so frustrated that I agreed and now I’m stuck with a $260 CV boot replacement.

Avoid QEW Mazda at all costs. Dealers like this give what should be a reputable car company a bad name and put buyers like myself completely off the Mazda brand. ALthough the issue has been "resolved" it's still very frustrating.

I’ll post before and after pictures soon.

Before:
- Pic of the left side with the grease wiped
- I wiped the grease off to confirm what it was on the left side and left the right side to be inspected by the technician (red area)
- Odd that eventhough the leak was identical on both sides that only the right side was given a corrective action
- The dealer knew that I wiped the grease off and that it was on both sides too!

After 1:
- the aftermath of the first clamp insallation attempt on the right side

After 2:
- Continued leakage through the newly torn CV boot in red on the right side
- Significantly less grease was lost because there was no grease left to lose!

Is this QEW Mazda in southern Ontario? If so, call Mazda Canada and do it fast. I'm sure that they'd LOVE to hear about another dealership screwing their customers over.

Either that or call back telling them that they should be expecting a call back from:

a) your lawyer
b) Mazda Canada

if they don't feel like warrantying their work.

I spoke with Mazda Canada already and they recommended speaking with the GM before proceding with any investigations. I'll be in touch with Mazda Canada again about this and a few other issues I've had with this dealer.

It's incredible that they can get away with things like this. I suppose let them get away with it (in a sense) by accepting their offer to refund the work completed and not holding out until they replaced the boot. I don't mind paying for work that has to be done that I'm not knowledgable enough to complete or lack the tools to do it properly but payng the dealer to damage your car is another story.

At least everyone can learn from my mistake and take their vehicle to another dealer.
