Why is the new Mazda6 so rare???

Seriously....I never see 2014/2015 models on the road. Once in a blue moon maybe, but nothing like the Camry or Accord. I can't figure out why Mazda hasn't taken a bigger bite out of the midsize sedan market.

I guess that's a good thing though, because I really don't want a "me too" car that you see at every intersection. Still though, it seems crazy to me that the Accord and Camry are so popular and the Mazda6 doesn't sell nearly as well.

they are becoming more common in LA/So Cal, but still rare when compared to camrys/accords/altimas. I see more of the just released new camry then our sixes, LOL.

I concur, especially about the new camry.

You can't really grasp how many camrys are sold until a new model comes out and it's like holy [email protected]#, they are everywhere already!

It's pretty clear why you don't see many Mazda 6 on the road. The company just published its sales figures for January. They sold about 3700 Mazda 6 worldwide. Annualizing that figure, that's less than 50,000 cars a year. In the whole world. There's probably fewer than 20,000 a year imported into the US. In all 50 states.
Seeing more 3rd gen's around me lately but not near the amt of fusions, camry's, etc...but does make me happy I've done the mod's I have in order to stand out even amongst the rare 6.

Mazda 6 U.S. and Canada Sales

You're right, 3766 cars sold in January, but that's U.S. sales.

Thanks for correcting me on that, Mz6GreyGhost. I didn't realize that was a US specific sales figure.

Looking at the stats at the link you provided, for 2013 + 2014, Mazda sold 96,862 units of the 6...That's less than 2000 cars on average per state, and just a drop in the bucket compared to the 250 million+ passenger vehicles currently on the road in the US.

It boggles my mind that anyone would choose an Altima, Accord, Camry, etc. over the 3rd gen Mazda 6, let alone orders of magnitude of buyers doing that. What are they thinking? Part of me doesn't mind though, as I like the idea of having a car that's more distinctive. As long as Mazda can sell enough cars to remain financially healthy and viable, we should be happy.
You also have to remember that CY 2013 sales include BOTH the 2nd and 3rd-gen models, and I know that Mazda was dumping 2nd-gens into fleet lots when the 3rd-gen was put on sale on January 1st. That makes the 3rd-gen sales even lower.
in a month's time.... I've seen less than a dozen Current model 6's... more of the older generation, tons of M-3's....

Which suits me fine. As I've noted elsewhere.... "there's that sinking feeling in your gut, when you turn onto a nicely paved, "fun road", and up ahead you see a Toyota.... and you just know, there won't be any fun today"

Toyota: a Japanese word for "I just don't care about driving"
Prius: a Japanese word for "I only drive because I HAVE to..."

Not any more, seeing a couple of them everyday now in northern Virginia area. Just saw two this afternoon in my neck of the woods , last year at this time it would be probably one a week. I don't like the exclusivity we are gradually losing :frown2:
They could be rare because I try to talk people out of buying one when they ask how I like it.
Mazda put a lot of features in my 2014 and it won many awards. That allows them to sell them for full nothing less than their full asking price.
The clearcoat scratches with the slightest brush by. I have my doubts about the paint thickness in general. My grill is chipped already.
The entertainment system's programming is a disappointment and the attempted fix appears to have made opinions worse.
It always sounds like a window is not up all the way.
Two door seals tore and separated within months of my purchase. Ordering replacements took two months for my dealer.
Wind noise is standard.
This car was made in Japan. I expected a more quality product.
The engineers must not have driven this car in the daylight. If they did, they would have noticed a constant reflection of the metal trim around the air vent on the side windows. For me, it's right in my view of the side mirrors.
A nut fell from a tree I was parked under. I now have a dimple in my roof. Is the metal that thin?
A coin holder would be nice. If I make a turn, their sliding in the tray is annoying.
Contacting the customer service hotline is a joke.

It looks nice and handles well, but the annoyances are keeping me from enjoying it.

Omg....yassss. I loved my 2014 but I can admit it was not well made at all. I saw the 2016 floor display last week when I went in for my oil change, test drove, and was like I don't care what it takes, I'm trading up today :)
I'm still not sure I've seen a 3d gen "in the wild." Granted, I've only really been paying attention since I got my 2d gen 6 a few weeks ago. I'll see a 1st or another 2d gen every once in awhile around here (a few times a week maybe) in about equal numbers.
Yeah, both the 6 and the 3 have been running wild in the DFW area. I see them on a daily basis. The other day I saw 4 3rd gen Mazda 6s and at least 3 three 3rd gen Mazda 3s. They are selling pretty well in DFW that's for sure.:surprise:

Follow DFW area resident here, and I see them all the time. My normal commute (20 miles each way) usually has me seeing at least 1, if not 2 3rd gen 6s daily.

Rarely a friendly wave or any other acknowledgement from any of the other owners though. :crying:
3 months into my M6 life... I still haven't seen 2 dozen current generation Mazda 6s.

I do see the same 5-6 in the same locations.... I see a LOT of 3s, and even CX-5s.

My last vehicle a 1993 Ford Ranger.... was the first year of the "new body style", and I saw a boat load of them, right from the start. I even saw several with my truck's mutation.... "Opal Gray STX 4x2".....so it's nice to stand out from the crowd...

My current motorcycle is a 2005 FLTRi (Road Glide)... when I purchased that bike... you could go weeks without seeing another... now they are everywhere.... so perhaps the Mazda 6 will follow into the main stream
There are a lot more 3's than 6's in my area of San Gabriel, California

There are a lot more 3's than 6's pretty much everywhere. Although, I had recently spoken to the owner of a new Mazda6 and he loved it. Seems like the car should be selling better than it is, but at the end of the day the Accord and Camry have the market on lockdown.
Finally saw a 3d gen 6 today. Bright red, very good looking car. 3's are very common around here -- much more common than 6's of all generations. Nothing outnumbers Hondas and Toyotas though.
In a college town you see a lot of 6's, I see more 1st gen 6's than I do any other gen.
Don't see any new 6's on the road here in Florida. If I had, I would have shopped them sooner. Mostly old ppl cars & the young ones drive older, riced out, FWD cars w/ spoilers.. uh.. on the rear.:nerd:
