Took my car in for a laundry list of issues. Most significantly, 5th gear won't engage fully and often pops out as soon as you let out the clutch.

So, I asked them to do an oil change while they had it, since it was due.

So, I asked if they had Mobil 1. -- nope. Only Motorcraft and Mazda oil.

So, I asked if they had any synthetic oil. -- nope "They don't recommend synthetic oil for the turbos. It's too slippery"

I've heard of pushrod engines having problems with uneven cam/lifter wear due to synthetic, but not OHC.

Just curious what the official Mazda recommendation is.

I'd look in my manual, but it's in my car which is at the dealer.

The oil that mazda uses is a semi-synthetic. It is a very good oil.

The dealer telling you that full synthetic is too slippery is complete bullshit.

Synthetic or semi-synthetic or run of the mill oil is fine for any car at any time. I want to see, just once, proof that synthetic will cause any type of long or short term problem with any car.

Dealer ignorance and internet myths are powerful tools of misinformation.

I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic now since my dealer told me I could.
