Ive felt in my N/A 2.5 14 mazda 6 touring auto when driving spiritedly around back roads using the trip tonic or doing a pull onto the freeway that the final drive ratio of 3.81 is just a little to long. A older RWD car is fairly easy if you can find a compatible diff with the drive ratio you want but its a different story with a modern FWD car such as this and theres no info on this car. Has anyone ever successfully changed the final drive in their 6?

Hello and welcome to the forum. The short answer is no. Changing you tire/wheel diameter is about all you got.

In a 6MT Skyactiv-G, yes, you can change final drive ratio, and at the same time you have to amend the location in the Body Control Module where the final drive ratio is input. See attached screenprints for details on how / where it's coded. Because the Mazda3 has the same manual transaxle as the Mazda6 but for the FDR (which is "longer" in the Mazda3), this can be done... but I note that you want to go shorter... so this won't work for you. This may be the case for the 6AT, too, but doubtless the Mazda3 will be taller, not shorter, by way of FDR.

It'd be a lot of work to make the change... moot as it is for you.

Note that I provide two screenshots. They may be scrambled by way of order.
