TURBOXS BOV whistles during acceleration?

4871 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  skatingzooyork
I have the TurboXS BOV on my car, and during acceleration, light or hard, it whistles.

Does this make sense? Not sure if there is a leak somewhere, or something?

At any rate, the sound of it is annoying.

Any ideas on how to tell if it is working properly?

I have the HKS and, when installed, the intake sounds like a jet engine. When I put the stocker back on (just to check), the intake isn't as loud. Go figure. I'm just guessing its the design of the aftermarket BOV's.

I've just sort of lived with it.
Just for more clarification, it's not the general sucking type noise heard when an intake is installed.

It's just literally a 'whistle' sound.
This may be a stupid question, but did you check your boost guage to check if you're loosing boost? I know that some like the hks and the one greddy whistle when you get off of it and boost is released. So you could possibly be losing boost.

I bet you have a leak somewhere, the BOV shouldn't make any sound until you let off the gas...

Check all the fitting and clamps.

It's basically just a bypass valve that should be shut the entire time until there is back pressure in the system.
No whistle when accelerating...

The only other thing it could be, are you running a higher boost level? If so, maybe the BOV you have isn't made to handle the higher boost level...If that was the case, the BOV would be opening before it is supposed to. (but I doubt it)

Hope that helps...
Forrest,

We recommend using 4-5 washers that are supplied with the TurboXS Valve. If you do not use these washers your car will possibly stall and it will also whistle. Give it a shot this should fix your problem.

Just a heads up to everyone we are running a special on the valve and adapter kit. Check the site!

does this BOV vent to atmosphere or can it be run re-circ?

what's the kit price?

looked on your site - didn't see kit price...

Thanks!

RBV-H is the valve needed to recirculate. The vent to atmosphere valves are the Bov-H or Bov-H-RFL. We are running the RFL on our Mazda without any probs except the occational backfire which the car tends to do with a cat-less exhaust anyway.

Kit price is $200

I will give it a shot using 4 washers and see what happens.

THanks!
Can someone explain what receric is? I would love a BOV but I do not by any means want a whistle sound when releasing pressure.. A whoosh is acceptable but still a bit annoying. Would love to have the stock BOV sound (basically non existent) to stay stealth and not announce my turbo everday in traffic.

any suggestions?

A recirculating BOV is when the the left over air it put back into the intake. When it's recirculating, there is not much whoosh/whistle sound...

So if you don't want to hear it, check to see if the MS6 BOV can be recirculated. I think it can...

If u don't use a CAI or SRI any BOV that runs recirc will be quiet.

Damnit, there goes another $200 :D . Guess I figured out what I am getting myself for xmas.
The washers, that was definetely the problem!!!

I must have been leaking boost.

The instructions said to stack them if I was running VTA, so I wasn't sure if I should use them, and I didn't want to shoot in the dark.

That whistle was driving me nuts.......

Congrats on the fix! I just installed my DV (Diverter Valve aka recirculating BOV) and I had to use a different spring to handle the 23psi... (in the GTI)

If I didn't do that, I would have had the same problem as you...

That whistle would have drove me nuts to!
