What trans do I have and what fluid is in it?
That's just bollocks. Quite a few guys here, me included, did drain and fills from conventional trans to synthetic and we're running fine. Recall that the drain and fill process, does not completely drain out all the fluid all at once. You should be fine as long as the synth fluid is meets Mercon V specifications. There are two ways to change your ATF: via multiple drain and fills (I did mine every OCI) or via a trans flush. I won't cover the pros and cons of each because it's already been covered umpteen times already. A search will help you find the related threads.
