I just updated to Fx 1.5.0.3 and the first thing I get is a very annoying bug when typing in a text box like right now writing this message or in the online email program. When you press the apostrophe the find bar comes up at the bottom of the screen. One can't continue writing and the apostrophe sign is efectively disabled. That sucks so badly. :irate: It's not happening this very moment but has consistently done so on two machines both running XP pro. Hasn't happened with 1.5.0.2 but I read on the mozilla pages that it's a known bug already in earlier versions.

This would drive me crazy if it came up again. I'd hate to go back to IE though. IT specialists to the front. Probably reverting to 1.5.0.2 would be easiest but the mozilla site doesn't off that download anymore or at least I didn't find it. Who knows how to turn it off?

Does it happen with the '/' key in a textbox as well? I don't know of any way to turn off or modify shortcuts in FF (you'd think there would be a shortcuts tab in preferences, but nope!), but I think there is an extension called keyconfig (or something similar) which might help.

Not having this problem with 1.5.0.3 in OSX.

CvilleSix, thanks for the answer. Yes it has happened with / , too. Tried it after I read the mozilla forum anf faq. The actual combi they wanted for the Find Bar was Ctrl+F. That would have been sensible. Right now, it's not happening to me. But there seem to be literally thousands who have that problem. There is also an official bug number and Firefox couldn't care less it seems.

Hope no one else is having this issue because, man, it's frickin' annoying!

Leadbed, I don't know if that's possible not to install it. I tried to find a version of 1502 and revert to that but I was not successful. What you might be able to do is check where the file was downloaded to and delete it.

From the faq and the mozilla forum I learned that it is not a specific problem of the new version but has been known for a year or so yet there are no fixes. It appeared for me after I installed 1503. Did so on both computers. It seems I was lucky becuase as I am writing in this very text box it should happen but it doesn't. Others, however, have siad they cannot get rid of it and have therefore started to use a different browser.

If you find out a way not to install it you also have to turn of the autmoatic updates in Firefox because otherwise it's gonna try again and again.

Can you post the link to the official bug report?

If thousands are indeed having this problem, I'm sure it will be patched quickly. But still, it's very odd.
