I've got an '04 6s that I bought recently. Currently it has 84k miles. I've done some aesthetics (grill, lights, tint, antenna, etc.) but I want to put an Intake and Exhaust in. Looking for a general opinion: is it too late to put an Intake and Exhaust in to make it worthwhile? And yes, I plan on keeping the car for a while.

I don't think so, intake and exhaust are minor anyways. if you were thinking about a turbo then you might have some issues. i put an intake/exhaust/highflow cat on my 94 ranger when i bought it (10 years ago) at 150,000 miles on the clock, now at 234,000 with no issues. with the way vehicles are built these days 84,000 is still young in my opinion. you will probably need to disconnect your battery after the mods so the computer can learn the new settings.

Look into getting headers.. there is a know clogged cat issue on the V6's.. so not only will you gain power but engine longevity.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Definitely not considering a turbo. Thanks for the confidence booster and the advice on the battery!

Ah, was not aware of that issue! Thanks for the heads up. Not sure why I haven't been researching them... I'm aware of the typical manufacturers for the intake and exhaust, and have read up on how to install both myself, but what about headers? I'm guessing there is probably a full thread on headers, but do you have any quick recomendations to start with on good manufacturers for headers? Also, is it something that I could do myself?

I like cars in there stock form, ive done a few upgrades to my car like an ipod adapter, new black floor mats, window tint to enhance the quality of my 6. Ive also taken off the door guards to make it look sleeker. I think intakes and exhaust are ricey imo and doin stuff like that to your car just makes it unreliable. Dont you guys want nicer cars eventually anyway...i want my 6 to last me thru college and thru my first big job then i want to get a new mustang..and when im older a bmw...and perhaps a mercedes when i reach my peak of success. Just my 2 cents.

Lol, a intake and exhaust is ricey and makes it unreliable? Please explain in depth.

Do you think Mustang, BMW, Lexus owners do not add these mods to there cars?

I just think putting a bunch of money into an average car is a waste of money when you could have a nicer one in the future. thats all.

I agree.....to an extent.

If I could combine what I paid for my 6 and the money I've put into it over the last 4 years, I could have picked up a used 996 911. Alas, I didn't have all of that money at once and I wouldn't know half of what I do now about cars if it weren't for me getting my hands dirty with this one.

To each their own.

Lol, you could have bought 2 TT kits.. better yet a quad turbo kit!!

If you wouldnt have been sillyouttacontrol with the changes like i was im sure you'd feel better about it all.

Agree 100%. Knowing what I know now about the preCAT induced engine failures of the V6, I think you are wasting your money if you don't do the mods. I bought my 6 dirt cheap with just such a blown engine and am having a blast customizing it. I've owned several classic Mustangs and other "nicer" cars, but in the end they are all just cars and you get board with them. The 6 has classic good looks, is cheap to own relative to the "nicer" cars and is a blast to drive, especially after headers and a lightweight flywheel. MOD ON!
