so i been driving around now for a while with a bad rear tire. the previous owner hit a huge pot hole that fucked up my wheel alignment and put a bubble in the sidewall of my tire. i was gonna buy 4 new tires but i realized i can't afford it right now. so my question is if i replaced just the one with another used tire with almost equal tread wear will that be ok ? i can get a used from a shop down the street for $50. compared to 160+ for a new tire.

i know on normal cars it can be done but i was told 4wd you can't?? don't think its true but i figured i would ask..

that will work fine, just make sure the tire is the exact same brand/model and size, and that if it is side biased, it's for the correct side of the car.

just a guess, but i would say as long as it's within 1-2/32 it should be good.

^^as long as your tires are within 2/32 of each other, you will be fine. But I would use this as a temporary fix. I had the AWD binding up on me when my fronts and rears were off by 4/32. 5 trips to the dealership thinking my diff was bad and the thought hit me. Bought 4 new tires and I haven't had a clunk, grind, lash since.

If it's just a little more tread on the used tire I would suggest shaving it down to match. And the tread pattern difference wont do much other than you MAY have different handling characteristics with it. Try to get a new set of 4. I know most places are running a buy 3 get 1 free deal on Falken 912's. I just bought some to hold me over till I get wheels. quiet, cheap, good life and plenty of performance for street driving. cost me ~400 for the set.

i have to get new tires soon and not looking forward to it.. have been thinking about getting new wheels too, but i cant justify the cost. i like the standard wheels, but the color just does not match the white car.

It's funny you say that, because if you look at 18x8's there a LOT more tire options, and a lot of them are reasonably priced... If you're keeping the car,
you may make up for the cost of the rims in a few sets of tires! My Sumitomos are 1/2 the price of OEM tires, they have a longer tread life, they're round, and the car rolls on them just like the old tires!

If at work somebody said to me, "Bend that offset at 5 2/32""
I'd punch them in the mouth.
I feel bad for tire guys.

Don't do it trust me. I ran different tread types from front to back when I first got my car, and it stressed the living shit outta the rear diff. Don't do unnecessary damage. Try and find the same exact tire or save up for a set of 4 new/used same tires.

New tires $<$ New diff
