Hi all.

I am hoping someone can help.uk based

2011 GH 2.2d (180hp)

Currently sitting on 166000 miles.

Chain done at around 80k by mazda main dealer

Now, I have done a Forscan scan and the reading on the chain stretch is showing at 13.74.....

I have been told this should be less than 10.5, but when asking on FB forums, they have not heard of a stretch as high as I have.

So, is there something that could explain this reading?

Full dealer service done yearly, car runs clean and quiet (as much as a diesel can be) and no errors, flashing dpf lights etc.... Confused!

Don't want to spend £1000 on getting it done if it doesn't need doing.

Bumping this for you because I've never heard of this on the forum before - doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but I haven't specifically seen a thread for it either. I've also very rarely seen people need to replace their timing chains, let alone only at 80k miles then potentially again at another 80k.

Maybe @TalonTsi90 or @DrFeelGood or @jman or @bulwnkl have seen this?

Interesting that chain stretch can be monitored, presumably, by the "lateness" of the cam timing versus the crank. Makes sense. For us in the New World with our gaspot Mazda6's, does anyone know how to do this?

Forscan app. Obd reader. Then do check and monitor on this....

Not sure I quite understand... i.e. "monitoring on the main screen". Does Forscan give you different graphics on the screen?

I guess, regardless of where it's displayed, the notion of measuring (and tracking) chain stretch has a lot of merit, provided a person has a rejection limit (from Mazda).
