Hi all. New to the forum. Don't have a mazda (yet). I have seen a really nice mazda 6 2.2 venture edition with only 77k on the clock. Really like the look of the car but keep reading these horror stories about the timing chain stretching. How likely is it to happen and is there any way of preventing it. Tia

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here (since I'm no expert on the 2.2 variant), but I've only very very rarely heard of Mazdas having timing chain issues at all - they're usually rock solid, but don't take just my word for it.

The chain isnt the issue, its the tensioners, at least in the V6. Might be the guides on the 4cyl.

Remember the 2.2 is a diesel, guys. The timing chain stretch issue has been widely reported. I believe that there was a recall for the 2G M6 2.2 engines due to their timing chain issues. I would recommend you call a local dealer to find out if your car has a recall out and if it has been done.
