Have a 2018 6 Signature...have 64K highway miles...does anyone know what the projected mileage life of this car will be? 150k miles...250k miles? Just planning ahead...
A lot of that depends on you I would think. Reasonable adult diving with timely maintenance should see it log 150K miles quite readily.
Deferred maintenance with a rev-limiter love affair will likely return reduced results.
Cheers
These Skyactive engines are incredible. Take good care of it and it will easily get you into the 200k+ range. We've got a few of us on here who are already into that and haven't seen anything major at all. I know several people who work at dealserships and they say the Skyactive engines so rarely have issues that they can't believe it.
When Mazda stays away from the bleeding edge they do great engineering work... Or rather, when YOU stay away from their bleeding edge products... I do suppose, however, that Skyactiv gasoline engines WERE bleeding edge at one time, what with 13:1; 14:1 CR's... And they certainly nailed those right off the bat.
As a dealer technician I can assure you that we didn’t get #1 in reliability for nothing lol. It honestly gets boring at work because all I do is basic maintenance because NOTHING EVER BREAKS! Unless it s an old pos blue oval creation that is and even those tend to run atleast to 150-200k. I have seen many of the early 3rd gens reach 200k without having any of the major components replaced. Like the Doc said it all depends on how you drive and your maintenance routine.
I can better all of you, hehe. I have a '79 VW air-cooled van, 7.3:1 CR. Having said this, the rule of thumb is to add 1.0 to an aircooled vehicle's CR to compare it to essentially the same engine as it -but Watercooled. It takes regular leaded (no one produces this any more, thank god) or regular unleaded fuel.
When folks rebuild 'em with a focus on longevity, and still wanting to use regular unleaded, they sometimes reduce the CR to 6.7 or so, and machine a groove into each flank of the conn rod big ends to serve as poor-boy piston squirters. Proper piston squirter nozzles and an enhanced flowrate oil pump would be better...
North of 200k miles here, nothing but routine maintenance and not a hint of trouble anywhere.
Impossible to argue with that. I have an MTX and do believe in 50k mile interval fluid changes. I've never had it come out "nasty" but oil is cheap, synchros are a pain in the butt to change and not all that cheap, so.....
