Looks like the Sumitomo in 215/50/17 has a load rating of 91. The 225/45/17 is rated at 90, which seems odd.

Are we comparing a UHP summer tire (General Exclaim UHP) to an UHP all-season (Sumitomo HTR+), or am I missing something? Doesn't seem like a fair comparison.

If I had to pick one of them, I would go with the Generals.

However, I don't think $550 installed for 17's is a great deal. Especially for the two listed here. You can probably do better...

yes i'm comparing the summer vs. all-season - and the comparison is based on price :spin:

do you guys think the 235/45 17's would be better?

tire diameter is 25.3" vs 25" for the 225 tires

stock tire height is 25.5" - correct?

just about, 25.46 :)
and yep 25.32 for the 235/45/17

you could run 235/40/17.... you'd lose an inch in diameter tho :) great gearing!

haha - well, i think the speedo would be off a bit too much at an inch off... :)

the guy at America's tire will do the 235's for $95 each vs. tirerack prices @ $76 :sarc:

Not on the stock wheels. 235/45R17 requires a 7.5 inch wheel, stocks are 7 inches wide. 225/45R17 is your best choice.

Technically speaking, 235's will fit on a 7 inch wide wheel, but it's not safe and not recommended. Stick with 215's or 225's.

well, yes - they do fit... (they're on my car!) no rubbing, and the car handles very well....
just wondering what part isn't "safe" about the setup???

are there technical details???
