Honda's normally aspirated Si makes at least 85% of its maximum torque from 2000 to its redline. That means that if you floor the Honda's loud pedal anywhere between two and eight grand, you'll have at your disposal at least 85% of the maximum quoted torque. VW's turbo GTI will hand over at least 70% of its peak number at any time from two grand to its own redline. The Mazda is far behind the others at 20%. [/b]
How did he calcuate the 20% for the mazda3speed?
If I take the lowest number at 2K RPM its about 115 lbs/ft.

115/245=47%

Perhaps the perception is that it is slower less than 3K is because relative to the massive output past 3K it 'feels' slow.

there is NO way the dyno is disappointing. remember, its FWD :\

that's what i was thinking too... the engineers already designed the speed3 to cut back on torque to prevent torque steer ... which is what they might be seeing on the dyno. people were already speculating that throwing all that torque in a FWD would cause massive torque steer before it was even released.
