Hey guys I'm sorry if this as been answered already but i could not find it anywhere. I was wondering if i could put the speed 3 engine and tranny into my 2008 6i. Mechanic cost wont be an issue, so i was wondering how "easy" it would be. Some of my questions are.
Would there be any issues with the inter cooler fitting under the hood.
As i understand both cars have the same inline 2.3L engine, is it directly bolt on
Is the 5 speed mtx bolt on as well?
What else could i use from the donor speed 3?
Would i need to buy anything else or could it all be taken from the donor car?
Thank you for reading and helping me out.

The 5spd transmission can't handle the extra power for very long. the 5 speeds are known for being weak.

You would need:
complete engine
turbo/exhaust /intake
wiring harness / ecu / cluster /
transmission / shifter assembly / shifter cables
axles / hubs

that's just the minimum. I don't know if the 6 bay is the same as the 3 bay, you might have to use a Speed6 transmission without a transfer case and block it off.

it's not an easy swap, and honestly not worth it. you'll end up paying 6-7K to have it done right, only to be at stock speed3 HP

Why not find a used Speed6?

- Cheaper
- No headaches other than trying to find one
- AWD
- Rarity

The MZR 2.3 is the exact same as in the Speed 3 and you'll have to go FMIC in the regular 6. The 6's do not have the air duct to the TMIC like the speeds do.

There's an owner in greece that did the MS3 trans swap on his turbo'd car and it worked out well for him.

Engine wise, the ecu/wiring would be the biggest issue. I'd suggest building your block and aftermarket tuning before suggesting trying to swap in a speed engine and getting it to work "correctly".

I agree that you are better off selling your car and buying a speed6 or 3 if you want it to be daily derivable at a decent price.

It is the same transmission as the MS6 but with a different final drive. Also the "Transfer case" is really a power take off unit and with it removed would require a custom made inner CV shaft.

But you are correct, it is a waste of money and effort.

In order to make speed 3 transmission work on a fwd Mazda6, You would need the following:
Mazdaspeed 3 - intermediate shaft, clutch, flywheel, and ofc transmission. And also from A mazdaspeed6 (LHD) left side axle, wheel hub and wheel bearing.

This setup will only work best with a built boosted 2.0/2.3/2.5 mzr/duratec.
Add my IG - Nitsuj.6
(Growing to make this build 1of1, with a built 2.5 and speed3 trans hopefully aiming to high 600hp)
