However, I find that 3,200 - 3,500 are the smoothest shift points. And, if you haven't had your clutch adjusted from stock it is best to do depress the clutch pedal only an inch or so (instead of going all the way to the floor) and throw the shifter into place quickly. Makes for ultra smooth, almost seamless shifting.

3200 normally for me. For more spirited shifts I go for 3500-4000. How does anyone shift at 2500? too much load on the motor when you shift that low.

Never really thought about it too much, but if I'm just 'casually' driving, I'd say at least 3,500, if not 4K. By no means is that meant as "what you should shift at" or any ideal... it's just how I shift/feels right to me.

I never skip gears unless I am flooring it getting up to speed real fast when merging and then skip a couple gears.

2500-3000rpm for normal shifting, around 5000 for spirited idiocracy.

For smooth shifts it really depends how you work the clutch, and also when you shift, you want to try and rev match switching gears.

I also noticed with my bitch clutch (early 06) I use the clutch earlier than anything else, like it needs my attention first before even thinking about moving the shift knob or gas. As I come off the shift pedal (out) that's when I touch the gas, = smooth ass shift like one of those continuous gay transmission things lol.

I wouldn't be in 6th going 40mph even if you had a gun to my head. 4th or 5th is more like it. 6th is for 60+ imo. too much engine load

I skip second all the time, as I'm usually getting on it off the line. Highway merging I'll sometimes go 3 to 5 or 3 to 6 depending. Usually 5 though... I don't like 6th gear, lol.

we are talking about the same car right....? Im currently driving my second ms6 and i have found after 90k+ miles behind the wheel that I get better gas mileage when im doing "slightly spirited" driving. I usually will shift 3500 - 4500, very smooth shifts not punching gears and stomping clutch, and cruise highway speeds 50-60 in 5th gear only going to 6th for 60mph+ speed limits. I sometimes will use cruise, but in day to day traffic im usually braking lightly and downshifting back between 4th and 5th as i manuver through traffic. With that said i avg around 340 miles per tank... not sure how big the tank is but i do know that my first ms6 i never got over 280 :D

so 6th is pretty bad under 60 mph huh? my other ms6 buddy does it and hes had no problems, he does it in all his cars (hes driven stick way longer than i have). i'm only using like 10% throttle

can someone explain the whole "heavy load" in more depth in regards to the ms6? mechanically i can see why it would cause stress, but i thought these cars could handle it

yes were talking about the same car. This is my first daily stick car to be honest so i'd like to fix my habits before they become stuck. I've driven stick in the past but i never had to deal with it on a daily basis until this car. And when i say "cruising" i mean cruising, not using the cruise control :)

I never skip gears unless I am flooring it getting up to speed real fast when merging and then skip a couple gears.
i prefer to skip 2nd, going to 1st to 2nd at 3k is a bit jerky, its obviously not matching the way i'm doing it

any advice to a stick noob (it seems) would be appreciated

I use 6th all the time once I'm at the speed I want to be at. If I want to accelerate, I downshift to the necessary gear, but other than that 6th is fine in my book. I don't require 60+ for 6th gear to be utilized.

I too have the issue with the jerkiness but I still have the early '06 clutch. I occasionally skip gears but I usually am less aggressive with the clutch and more aggressive with the gas to help with smoother shifts. Gotta find her spot :D

well that makes me feel better :D

i use 6th just to keep me at the speed i want to stay at, ill switch lower to speed up.

not sure if i have the early 06 clutch or not, mine is an 06, sure feels like the early one. Definitely gotta find the sweet spot.

I'm letting the clutch fully come out before hitting the gas, maybe i need to hit the gas a bit when the clutch is almost out to even out the jerkiness?
