What is with these companies? Man I totally loved when Rogers was the cable supplier in my area.
Here is my story:
Rogers released Digital Cable, so I got the digital box, and was paying $10/month. After about 8 months, Shaw and Rogers did a switch with subscribers, and Shaw took over the cable area where I lived. Fine so be.
Now Shaw brings out some POS motorola digital box. They said I had to change over to it, and I said no, because its a POS (well I didn't say it in those terms, but you know...)...
Anyways a few weeks later my cable stops working, and they say I have to upgrade. Fine so be. I goto the only retailer they had at the time, and lucky enough my friend who had 2 jobs, was working there. She changed the boxes for me, sold it to me for $50 bucks, and I no longer had to pay $10/month. That was maybe 1-2 years ago. I'm happy... I did ask her at the time about any future boxes, and she said that Shaw will upgrade me to them since I own the box. Cool, sounds good since I wanted to get rid of this POS as soon as possible.
Now Shaw has released a HDTV digital box, so finally TV will look clear on my 53" HDTV. I just gave them a call, and they said there are no upgrading options, just to buy the box at the price of $699!!!!!
She said they have no payment plans (ie: like charging $10/month like before) and she says if I buy the HDTV box the old one is mine, and I can sell it if I want.
Tell me how gay that is, $699 for the HDTV box, and NO other options but to buy it outright...
