well, i got my second ticket in my speed6 on a back highway. didn't even realize i was going so fast so i was extremely surprised when the officer said he clocked me at 86. i know what all of you guys are saying, but i just turned on to the road and was giving it some gas and wasn't paying attention. i don't even think i was in fifh gear yet. i saw the officer hit his brakes so i knew i was getting a ticket so i just pulled right over before he even turned around. didn't bother checking my speedo, but honestly i didn't consider my speed because i didn't floor it.

on this note does anyone know of a good radar detector. not that i want to try to out-wit the law, but even when i am not trying to go fast i seem to be going faster than i should. bahhh. i will get the hang of this.

I have a valentine 1. On unique whips, they install k40s, but i cant justify paying that much for a freaking radar. As far as radar detectors running off batteries--as the batteries wear down, the reception of the radar goes down==> battery powered radar detectors arent a wise idea. It is better than nothing, but then again..why not shell out some money if you are that worried about speeding and get a quality radar.

Had an Escort for years, it finally died. Bought the top of the line Beltronics (seduced by slick advertising), after six months threw it out and went back to an Escort. Much happier...

I don't use a radar detector and have only gotten two valid speeding tickets in 24 years. The third was total BULLSHIT...but that was on an Indian res in AZ, and I was the out-of-stater, not the van that really WAS speeding.

Another thumbs up for the Escort (passport 8500- DO NOT GO WIRELESS with the Solo) and in WI, I didnt take my decision lightly. I read the reviews and then talked with alot of travelling businessmen to double check. This is the weapon of choice.

might wanna try this vendor (Ive used them and recommend): www.radarbusters.com

A note of help on the install: Ive installed mine using the windshield bracket just to the passenger side of the rearview mirror ahead of the passenger visor (which still swings down pretty well). You can buy a remote display for it as well for about forty dollars. Ive installed this on the top of my steering column run the leads down from the detector behind the headliner, and tap into the power at the drivers kick panel using a scotchlok tap in. Clean and stealth, but being the maniacal perfectionist that I am, I wish I had an audio mute idea for when the radar alarm tripped. So far, not a single person has noticed the detector but they all ask what the little dealiebob on my column is for.

Ticket free since purchased, what better can you ask for?

The first time you get lasered, you will reach for your cell phone.

Not trying to rub it in, but at 86, without knowing it, and in front of a cop, you asked for it. On the other hand, at least you took advantage of the occasion and got up on your ride. Over here, 62 in a 55 will get you pulled over with nobody else on the road. SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!!!

theres this local customs shop by me... i cant find their website at the moment, but its AE Designs in Tuckahoe , NY. They do some nifty shit with detectors, where they put the detector LED's into your rearview mirror. Its looks seamless and damn wicked.

I wish i could find their site...

In all the reviews I have read the Valentine One is the way to go. However, the Escort Passport 8500 has always been a very close 2nd and it's cheaper. The Valentine offers full radius coverage with arrows indicating which direction the signal is coming from.

Staying within the "legal" limit in this car is impossible. If anyone intends on not speeding, do not buy the Mazdaspeed6. That being said, speeding is an art which takes common sense. Never speed onto a highway from an entrance ramp unless you have verified in your sideview and rearview mirror that you are not merging at 86 MPH right in front of a state trooper. Even a detector probably wouldn't have saved you.

How did he get your exact speed if he was driving in the opposite direction?

Another very satisfied Valentine One owner here. I like the arrow indicators to know where the radar is coming from.

It has saved my bacon numerous times. :seeya:

bahhhhh i just bought the escort cordless, but it is a POS. i was 50 yards behind a cop that had its lights on and nothing special. the detector signaled a weak k band and then i saw the lights flash on for some poor sould. even then when i was following the cop who was 50 yards ahead it just gave a weak k band signal. then all of a sudden when the cop was still chasing the guy he caught i went from a weak k band signal to a strong k band for no apparent reason. at the same time i went twice up and down the same road while the detector picked up a k band from the auto doors going one way, but not the other. each time the 360 degree detector picked up the doors one way but not the other. also, the couple times i saw cops it only picked the signal up not 5 miles away like i was told but at most 100 yards away. RIDICULOUS for the price. needless to say i am going to return the thing. at the same time, however, i do like the thought of a corless detector and will consider the setup of socsndaisy wich sounds choice. i hate the site of detectors and the fact that cords are laying about.

I DIDN'T MEAN TO SPEED!!!!!! it was a curve and i was extremely surprised when he told me what i was clocked at. if anoyone knows what limestone walls on both side of a three lane highway will do to distort a signal let me know. i was traveling a curve on the highway and the section was surrounded by a limestone enclosure on both sides. does that cause relection, refraction, or the like. also, he was traveling the opposite direction but i know radar guns are equipped to obtaine accurate readings in those instances.

not just the arrows, but the bogie count..the bogie counter has saved me twice...2 state troopers with in a mile of one another, both in the median. Picked up 2 bogies ahead--on a normal detector, you would think that you are picking up the trooper you just passed..so you speed up, only the be clocked by the trooper ahead in the median.. well needless to say, passed the 1st one, still having 2 bogies, except this time one ahead and one behind me...I watched other cars in my group haul ass once we passed the 1st one while i stayed behind doing speed limit. All of them received tickets, not moi!

Yes, Valentine One or the Passport X50 (8500) are the two most recommended choices. According to the tests by popular car magazines, it's a toss up as to which one is better. The biggest advantage with the Valentine One is that it has the arrows on the display that tell you where the radar is coming from. I have a Passport (Escort) X50 with the blue display and it of course has the new POP radar detection availability.

Absofu#*ing lutely! Speeding is definitely an art! It does come down to common sense and recognizing the tactical patterns of radar shooting cops.

Another vote for the V1....it's a freakin' blood-hound!! Cops in my area just seem to sit/drive with the radar in a constant on state. The V1 picks them up miles in advance. At first I thought it was falsing because I wouldnt see a radar souce. Then way down the road I'd spot it.

I think you need to pay a little more attention to the V1 than others what with the bogie count and the directional arrows. But its worth it, especially if you understand the operating principals around radar/lasar.

Great customer service to boot. When I ordered mine, I wanted an extra windshield mount for my other car. Instead of charging me extra, they swaped the visor mount with a second windshield mount. Yeah, its a little thing, but nice!

Would any of these radar detectors not detect airport signals because on my drive to school I always pass and airport and my old Whistler went off at the exact same time approaching the airport and off the exact same time after passing the airport.
