I am in a dilemma and I was curious to see if anyone had any advice. I own a pair of RX 8 rims for my 2003 mazda6s. I decided to bring them to a paint shop to have them painted for $309. Through email confusion/miscommunication the actual price ended up being $849 which I found out after the rims had already been painted. I personally think this price is ridiculously overpriced to get my wheels painted gloss black with a clearcoat for that price. I bought the rims (and tires for that matter) for $800 so I think the price to have them being painted for $849 is a lot. My real question is what should I do. Should I try selling the rims online for $1600 bucks? I would really prefer not to take these people to court but I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Your thoughts are helpful. Thanks.

first off.... SLAP YOURSELF SILLY! REPEAT! & REPEAT!

- at MAX RX-8 Stocks rims go for about $250-350 a set (4). some even comes with tires...
- what RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE paint did you choose?!?
- GL luck with selling them for $500+ let alone $1600!
- HIGH QUALITY powdercoating rims (WAY WAY better than PAINTING) cost $175-300 MAX at a reputable shop. Maybe a little more at some places. To include clearcoats
- When doing transaction of this nature (custom works), I'd always recommend talking in person (if possible) & get ALL quotes in writing & signed

Do you have a screen shot of said emails?? it might help if we could read them to see what was said & done. Maybe they were playing you, we don't know. If it's clear that they were trying to scam you.

I would recommend finding & keeping ALL transaction paperwork, emails, etc related to this transaction. REVIEW it meticulously. If legal action is required after finding that they played you. SUE. .. that being said, legal fees might/will be more than what you paid all together. But if you have a good case- SUE them for damages & legal fees. File a complaint with the BBB and such.

+1 with slap yourself real hard....
I would check the email communication between you and the other party, and if you think they are scammed you then contact the attorney General to see what they can do for you....

yea. you wont ever get that much. the OEM rx8 19's dont even sell for that much, and are ALOT rarer. i bought my full set of rx8 wheels for $250.

did you get them powdercoated, or just painted? even a powdercoat job doesnt cost $800+. i had my set of rx8's done for $280. and they had to order my color cause i was so picky.

Where did you go for the powder coating? I live in IL also and I'm picking up some RX8 wheels this weekend. Also, do you run the wheels through winter? I want to use these wheels all year long. Thanks

Bummer that RX8 wheel go for a lot cheaper. I mean I did get slighty used ones (only 1,000 miles) and brand new tires but I guess 800 is still too lofty for that price. I couldnt find anything cheaper than that, but I probably just wasn't paintent enough. Thanks for everyones help. Looks like the lawyer rought will probably be my best bet.

Print out the emails and take them to a lawyer and see what they say. If you are in the right, they can send a letter and try for a settlement. If you misunderstood then you are out of luck

At the most I would have paid $100 a wheel
