I went to replace the battery in my MS6 last weekend and picked up a AutoCraft Gold 96R battery, but it was about 1" shorter than the stock battery so the hold down bracket didn't fit. Searching the forums for which batteries it seems that most people use size 35 batteries, but the online specs for them all seem to be ~1" taller than the stock battery (except the RedTop35 which is .5" shorter). Are there any batteries out there with the same height as the stock battery? If not, how does everyone modify their hold down bracket to fit the new battery?

Thanks!

My last 2 Redtops came with a spacer that was on the top of the battery. You have to take that off and then place it under the bottom of the battery to raise it up. This list time I got the Redtop (for the speed6) they guy didn't know anything and tried to throw it away, I stopped him and good thing I did because I needed it. It is just a block of plastic that goes under the battery, maybe you can find one or make something to do rise it up. Otherwise, you might have to thread the bolt more on the battery tie down; but I don't know if that can be done or not.

Thats good to know! Definitely a plus for the Redtop if I end up going that route.

Wood next to a hot engine with a container of acid on top of it?!

I'm currently out of town and can't take a look at the tray, but I wonder how hard it would be to raise or lower the entire tray.

Stupid stealership put the regular 6 battery in there & it's too short so was sliding around.

Another option that would work, but would be a bit of a pita is to take the oem peice and 1) bend the bracket that attaches to the frame down so that it goes down to the top of the battery, and 2) cut off part the bottom of the hook on the other side, and bend it back up (to make another hook) so that it works w/ the amount of threading on that rod.

I have a Kinetik Racing #577-KR5112 battery which fits perfectly.

^Those are horrible ideas! Well, idea #2 would work well if you did it right, but would be a pita. I'm going w/ the block idea from the other thread for now. I had no clue I even read this thread, and wasn't even thinking about a new battery at the time! wtf?! And it was only a few weeks ago!! hahaha

I had this same issue when i put a duralast gold in. follow these steps and it works great !

- un-bolt tray
- go to hardware store and get two spacers. about 1 1/2 inch or 2 inches.
- get two longer bolts with same thread pattern.
- bolt tray back down.
- find a spacer for metal rod/hook.
- put battery and stock tie down back and its good to go !

i will get some pics if i can. raining for days here
