basically i saw that the rear view camera technology was still in its infancy and any camera that you might purchase would probably not be super - especially at night.
first of all there are only a few rear view cameras on the market.
most use CMOS technology. these are ultra cheap and will not produce a good picture.

you want CCD technology - if they dont say CCD - they are CMOS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge-coupled_device
you have to spend at least $100 to get CCD.
Then there is the issue of viewing angle - you want an angle of at least 100 but probably not more than 120 to get a good view behind the car without too much distortion.
Then there is image sensor - you want a 1/3" image sensor, not a 1/4" to get a large enough field of view. If the camera seller doesnt provide stats - assume the worst.
You want to be sure to get a camera that can reverse the image - so you can see it acurately on a screen.
Then there is the number of vertical and horizontal pixels, waterproof, black&white/color, infared for night viewing....etc etc. It goes on and on.
here is the best - cheap one i found on ebay. feel free to buy it, as im going with the one i mentioned before.

I am going with the one i mentioned in the previous post because of the overall quality of the site - they have a bunch of rearview camera info on their forums.
I intend to hook it up through a set of these visor monitors (also tons of research).
