Is there a how-to on removal the rear bumper for the speed6? I just got a set of the dummy exhaust tips to install. I looked under the car and saw some of those pointed black tab things that pop out like under the front splash shied. Do you just remove them and the bumper detaches??

my guess is there a bolts inside the wheel wells and under the trunk lid that also hold the bumper on. and possible behind the tail lights.

bumper removal, both front & rear, has been discussed here dozens of times, including pages from the manuals showing the steps.

Replacing the exhaust rings has been discussed here dozens of times, including pages from the manuals showing the steps.

I'm not normally a Search Nazi, but this is covered over & over & over & over, heck, even just scrolling through a few pages of posts will yield results

Well, maybe I am crazy, but, I did search and found nothing pertaining to the Speed6. I did find rear bumper removal for a Mazda 6, but, not the Speed6. I haven't seen anything about installing the Dummy exhaust tips either, but, from the tips I got it looks like 4 screws just hold them in. So, just need to remove the bumper. I plan on pulling the black push pin things out and seeing if it just comes off. Seems kinda flimsy when I looked at it.

I am actually with you on this one. I didn't find a thread about it either. There are tons for the front bumper, rear, not so much.

Really Kids?

Well gosh darn, silly me......
I had thought, just maybe, this was not the first person who asked about replacing the chrome exhaust rings.

Yeah, silly me......

BTW-
Current debate is between removing the axle-back section of the exhaust or removing the black plastic portion to easily r&r the exhaust trim rings.

You don't want to remove the complete rear bumper assembly unless you absolutely have to!! It has many many interlocking tabs connecting to body sheetmetal, which, by all reports, will mostly break unless you're very lucky or very skilled. The skilled ones who have been there done that will tell you to try alternatives first.

But, you know, I'm just guessing, since I've never done this, and we've never posted about it.

There have been threads about the rear bumper removal, especially the lower exhaust sections. However, after doing a search on both google and this site I could not find the scans that fireboy posted. There were just general tips to help with the removal process.

Well, after looking at it more closely, I took the easy way out. I bent all 4 of the welded tab attachments where the screw go to hold the tip to the bumper. Than, I inserted the top through the holes from the outside of the bumper. I bent a few of the tabs back and inserted the screws. Now, I have the dummy tips installed over my corksport exhaust.
Btw..Tigray..if you are so sure threads exist on this, go ahead and post the links instead of just being a sarcastic jacksass. I always search first and nothing readily showed up here or on the internet about doing this removal.

Alas, I was also unable to find the info I thought was available.

I have started a new thread posting the info from the service manual regarding rear bumper and exhaust surround removal, such as it is. Key words used liberally to hopefully assist those who may do this search in the future.

Apologies for the asshole attitude.

You know, if you just look over the bumper, you can pretty much take if off based solely upon sight common sense. I took my entire rear bumper off about 3 weeks ago just because I haven't taken it off before. Took it off completely, looked it over, muttered to myself "hmph, that was easy", and put it back on in about 5 minutes. Not ragging, just saying ;) It's easy homie. GL.

haha RayDog, yeah, you're right lol. It started with having to fix it because it popped out on one side because I backed too far over a parking lot curb and it snagged pulling back out. I love being that low :D Went to pop it back in at home ad got thinking. However this is the guy that decided to take the entire dashboard off just to remove the heater core under there.

damian, nah not really. I know enough about this car at this point to figure things like that out. Just a few bolts and push clips and voila. That dashboard tho was a PITA. I almost regret it haha.
