A 2006 Mazda 6 sometimes won't start, usually when it's raining. The car turns over, but does not start, so the battery and starter are in order. To start it, I shifted the transmission to neutral and then back to park. Then it started. However, it didn't work last time. This time I put it in neutral and moved the car a few feet and it started up in the parking lot. Could it be a problem with one of the sensors?

Do you have a way to scan for codes? Not all codes will throw a CEL.

This says that its the switches in the console, a known issue for auto Mazdas. The car doesnt know its in Park. @DrFeelGood or @Byakuya you remember who did the write up with the P/N's?

I replaced the switches in the shifter but they are only associated with the manual "sport shift" function. There were no part numbers with those because they are only offered with the whole shifter. I pulled the parts from salvage for mine.
It might be worth spraying some contact cleaner in the park switch.

Wouldn't the switches prevent crank also? Seems that OP is getting crank, but no fire.

Check the MPI fuse, or just replace it. Its cheap enough.
