On a somewhat related note, I'm using a USB flash drive instead of my iPod. Occasionally I hear cracking/popping sounds. Very irritating. If I turn the car off and reload the music, the popping stops. Any suggestions?

I just returned from the Mazda dealership. I was told one of their techs was in training this last week on the USB software update. The update should be released within 24-48 hours and will be available at mazdausa.com - owners. We shall see...

He didn't have specifics but said it was to address the many complaints Mazda has received.

To lessen the pain of having to hear the same song each time you power up your iPod/USB device, download the blank mp3 found at the link below to your music library and rename it numeral 0 title (i.e., "0 iPod Intro"). This will send the mp3 to the top of your song list and your device will start in silence.
