Hello everyone,

I'm have a small issue with the power steering on a mazda 6 03, were on any cold start the pump? or belts? are very loud. you could can feel the strain in your hands when you turn the steering wheel & the noise get louder.

I did change the power steering fluid today. but it seem to make the problem worse.

The only problem is only on cold start & once the cars warmed up, the noise & strain seems to go away.

Have i got a problem with the pump? belts? & how much will i be up for?

any help will be good!

thanks

One reason it could be worse after changing the fluid is that it may have air in the system now. I would have a shop look at it. They can use a technician's stethoscope and pinpoint the origin of the noise. You can do this yourself, but it can be very dangerous prodding away around belts turning on a running engine. Possibilities are anything riding off the belt. Even the tensioner, or idler pulley will make more noise when you load the power steering pump if they are going bad. Good luck.
