First off, let me put you at ease...I dont plan on buying one of these, but...

What are some of the general differences between a good injen/AEM/CPE cold air intake, and
this guy or
this guy??

I mean from $200+ down to below $50:shocked: ...How? Why? Why not!?

Im just gonna throw out some theoretical reasoning here... Theyre both metal piping, both have a reusable air filter, both relocate the air intake into a better spot than the hot air engine compartment...

If these ebayers were like 150, I would say, ok im probably paying for injens name etc... but 30 and 40 bucks! Maybe they're disposable...you have to change it every time you change your oil lol

I have a cheap ebay CAI (the Bomz racing one.) It works fantastically. No problems.
Just switch out the filter that it comes with for a K&N filter, or something similar.

I would say just get the cheap one. Save yourself some money.

24+ peak whp with the CP-e MAFci vs. 7-10 with a regular CAI. That's the big difference.

As far as the non-tuned CAIs go..it's all build quality, filter quality and brand name mark-up. Also, some will throw CELs and some won't.

You need to do more searching on the boards. These types of questions come up at least once a week.

Ooops. Didn't see that this was in the 2.3 section. My bad.

In that case, get whatever intake you want. They will all yield you about the same power gain.

The main differences between the top name brands and the knock-off stuff is the research and development. When $200+ is shelled out for an intake from a name brand, it's proven power. I don't think the eBay brands have those type of resources for that. I would check the MAF location placement and the pipe diameter though.

The cheapy intakes for the I4 are all the same, you just buy a BOMZ and change out the filter to an AEM dryflow. This has been discussed hundreds of times on here. Your not going to get any power difference between the 6-7 different brands.

Well what does it matter if its the 4 or 6cyl?
Do you mean because the 6cyl has more to gain than the 4, so the quality of the 4 cai doesnt have to be great?

Pretty much... if you had a 6 cyl. everyone would tell you to get CP-E or the Injen with injen fix. You can gain a legit 20-25whp with that one mod. But unfortunatelly you have the 2.3, and none of the intakes make that big of a power difference to warrant spending the extra money on a name brand. (I had them all)
