Performance upgrades, need help!

10696 Views 70 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  The Great NY
Hi there,

I recently bought a 04 mazda 6 3.0 and I'm looking to put some stuff into it to add some hp. I'm thinking of getting a downpipe, headers, exhaust system, intake system, throttle body, front and rear strut bars, short throw shifter.

Has anyone done any of this to theirs? I need to know good places to purchase them from and any ideas.

Thanks

Yea 200whp is probably more realistic, but according to The Great NY, with a proper tune 230whp shouldn't be a problem with I/E/H. Is tuning available though? Isn't the ECU a huge restriction to making more power? If we can gain 35whp with just bolt-ons, tuning could possibly give another 20-30whp more without going aggressive. Who, where, how much for tune? I'd love to see how much power the 6s can put out without FI. Also, is anyone familiar with the Nautilus performance SS headers?
Oh and btw, you guys blow my mind with how much you know about engine/performance upgrades. I wish i joined 5 years ago when i bought my car haha!
Well doesn't a stock 6s puts out like 165-170hp to the wheels? Doing I/H/E will probably get you to 200hp.
Stock 6s is 185ish

Edit: oh...and I have tuning avaiable for the 6s and the 6i

I just got goosebumps! Is there a website i can go to check this out? I have lost power installing that detuned crappy cpe injen fix. Is there any way I can safely undo the install? You can tell how much i love cpe. As soon as i get my headers installed and other things fixed, I will be looking all over the world for you! Actually, I think I did see a thread not too long ago that you're an authorized dealer/tuner. Am i correct?

BTW I have followed your progress on youtube and through some google searches. Pretty sick stuff you've done to the 6s. I'm sure you've heard it a million time...well here's a million and one more. haha

the CPE tune is a fancy SAFC with less options.

Your best option for tuning thus far is justin's tuner.....

there are other options out there, but bang for you buck justin's tuner.
I'm definitely interested in Justin's tuner. Thanks flipper.
I was just about to start a new thread when I found this one. I would like to make my car a little bit faster. It was suggested to me by a vendor from here to do the following.

Injen Cold Air Intake $260-275
Injen Catback Exhaust $767 + Shipping
Spider Headers $136.50

Supposedly the net result would be near the 20hp level. Would someone with 6 modding experience comment on the proposed upgrades and prices. Also would these mods severely affect fuel consumption or bump you up to needing higher octane fuel?

2nd problem I am also looking for 18' wheels to go onto the car BUT I am in absolutely no hurry especially with the size of the potholes from all the snow. The extra rolling mass I think will slow the car down, so Im concerned about doing all the upgrades and putting myself back to square one with the 18" rims. Is the extra mass a serious concern on speed?

Also I have 0 experience with any of the proposed parts manufacturers so please let me know if any are out and out crap.

who the heck is spider headers? the only refrence I could find was an MX6.....

is this a V6 or I4? the V6 nets nearly 20WHP(injen intake saw 17whp in import tuner magizine back in the day untuned) with just a proper intake.

I'm a hell of alot modded and don't have a signficant amount of fuel consumption nor have I stepped to higher grade fuel. the car is tuned for 87 so that is what I put in(though justin and I have debated on this perviously it is my choice)

light weight 18s weigh less than factory 17s. that said even increasing the mass a little isnt a huge deal. less you buy wheels made from stone or something. Just make sure you have properly sized tires so the speedo isn't effected.

My car is an 05 V6 Manual Trans - sorry forgot to add that part.

Spider headers? Thats exactly what I said when the guy over at sporcompactonly said the manufacturer of the headers.

What headers do you recommend and what is a good place to purchase them? Good to know on the gas, theres no point in buying a fairly decent on gas vehicle and then making it into a guzzler :p of 93.

Thanks
I as well am on the same boat as Salvatore and wildride. I have an 04 V6 auto and am seriously considering buying:
1 - CP-E CAI mafci
2- Magnaflow cat back exhaust

i am also currious about MSDS/CP-E headers.. my car has approx 143000 kms and i know that there's been issues with the stock pre-cats? should i look into headers? I dont think i will be doing any other mods do my car so would it be wise to get the tuneable or the non-tuneable for the cp-e cai??

thanks!
