Intakes

AEM- Single pipe intake with MAF near wheel (thats a bad thing) $240.
Injen- 2 pipes (you can convert from CAI to SRI), MAF near TB $226
Fujita- Same as Injen ^^ $269
CP-E- Base model tunes your (a/f) car slightly, tuneable version for $100 more. Not recommended for the 6i. $490/$590
Bomz- Ebay intake modeled after Injen. Filter is low quality, suggested you replace with AEM, or Fujita filter. $50

*Note- All these intakes will give the same gains. You can expect to see anywhere from 5-7whp. Check out therpmstore.com

Exhaust

Magnaflow cat-back- The most popular CB for the 6i, special pricing though therpmstore.com
Racing Beat- Axle-back exhaust (so pretty much 2 mufflers) $419
Custom- If you plan to go boost, i would suggest going 2.5" madrel bent with the muffler of your choice $300-500

*Note- Exhaust's will not give you a HP gain, IT IS purely for sound.

Header

F2- 4-1 header with flex-pipe and high flow cat/race-pipe option. Peak gains of 8-10whp $375/$475 f2usa.com

*Note- Should have upgraded exhaust system with this.

Throttle Body

Twowheelin's (Cordovamotorsports.com) TB- $200 after core-refund.

*Note- These are 'factory new' Mazda throttle bodies that are fully optimized and polished to provide over 15% more air flow area than the stock unit! This increased air flow results in dyno proven increases in HP and torque for better throttle response you can feel across the entire rev range. These throttle bodies are not only larger in area, but also provide a smoother air flow for reduced intake turbulence using the following optimization techniques:

Short throw shifters

TWM- Reduces throw by 35%, and also has a 2.5" height reduction. $150 twmperformance.com

*Note- For MTX only... uhh ya.

Balance shaft delete

F2- This kit is for the 2.3L duratec platform and will free up excessive rotational drag by removing the balance shaft. Includes all necessary hardware needed to block the oil feed line in the 2.3L Duratec engine. $20 from f2usa.com

*Note- This install is not for the faint of heart. Essentially your taking out a 20 lb. hunk of rotating mass from the engine.

Intake Manifold

Cosworth- $695 Cosworth Intake Manifold for 2.3l Duratec Ford Focus

*Note- Good luck finding one!

Mounts

AWR- Transmission mount $90 This allows you to put more power to the ground.
AWR- Passenger side mount $160 " " thepmstore.com
V2- Lower engine mount $130 " " F2usa.com

*Note- Expect ALOT of vibration/sound in cabin.

Advanced timing mod

Timing advance mod - Mazda 6 Forums : Mazda 6 / Mazda Atenza Forum

*Note- You "should" use 89/91 octane with this mod.

VTCS Delete

*Note- Your removing "flappers" from the intake manifold, which allows more airflow.

Turbo kits

Hiboost- 225whp with stock exhaust, 25pwhp with 2.5" exhaust. $4k hiboost.com
F2- Stage 1 is $3k, stage 2 dyno/price TBA. f2usa.com
Custom- ONLY go this route if your doing the install yourself, and can get the key components (MS6 turbo/manifold, intercooler, tuning, etc...) for a good price.

*Note- I would strongly recommend saving up for a turbo kit. Once you get the mod bug, you WILL want more power and NA just wont cut it (and if you can make it work for you, i can gaurantee you will spend double what you will need for a kit/install/tuning.

O.K. now obviously there are other little things we can do to our car (TB coolant bypass, ground wires, etc...), but this list will net you actual WHP. I also didnt list EVERY lil' brand (GT spec header, or Greddy/Evo exhaust) becuase they either 1. are over-priced, or 2. dont fit correctly.

oh wow!!! the fijita gains are that big??? daaaang. lol. as far as the bored out TB, its gonna get you 2-3 horsies. but overall just better/smoother acceleration im told. awesome list. lmao, man its sad though. we have like nothin for our 6i's

oh!! whoops, that fujita intake listed was for the speed 6. hmmm.... so for my 6i still lookin like cpe best bet for whp?

well the AEM and Injen ones are a bit bloated since those are taken from the manufacturer's website and not actual dynos of people on these boards, unlike the CPE, thanks to Stretch and his now long-gone 6i. i doubt they're that high, especially considering the CPE uses a 3" pipe and the others are 2½"

Opimizing the TB by itself is good for at least 3-4 HP. Boring is good for another 3-4 depending on how big you bore it. Optimizing is a much overlooked mod that really improves the feel of how the engine responds.

You'll never go back.... ;)

Heads up for 07 owners: The 07 2.3L is PZEV compliant and the TB costs over $400 for this model year!! If you're considering optimizing the TB on an 07, be VERY careful!! I have not been able to verify if the parts are interchangeable with previous years.

You can add Balance shaft delete kits to the list. Marcy motorsports and cosworth both make them for about $20. Its kind of a pain to do, but well worth it. Also, Marcy Motorsports is working on an intake manifold which should be ready in the next few months, should show some good gains.

yeah...$20 bucks for the shaft delete kit...$2000 in labor (not actual number, I'm speculating...quite stupidley) plus if your still under warranty, better say your last goodbyes to it...I'm aware of that "you gotta prove it broke it " modification act but even with that, taking out something that suppose to minimize engine "shaking"..its gotta look bad in presenting your case...is it a "DAMN THATS NICE" difference...or a "hmm...thats interesting difference..."...intake manifold?...now I'D be willing to drop a pretty penny for an intake manifold...since I'm going the N.A. route with my work, a manifold would yield a nice curve *dyno*....

I just compiled a list by looking through some threads and posts and i put them all together. If anyone has any dyno numbers for any of the above intakes post them in here and i will edit accordingly. As of right now the CP-E is the only intake that has been proven 100% accurate in my view.

Also prices may very. I simply found the best links. Im sure group buys and other links might be better. But im just going for average price range just for reference.

If anyone else has anything to add please do, and i will edit my post.

Can add BOMZ Racing Intake which is what I have, but I have the V6. It's exactly the Injen but w/o the brand name.

i have the bomz for my 6i, and ya, ya i know dont go the cheap route. but unless its the CP-E all the CAI are the same!!! it works great.... and i t was 80 bucks off ebay.

I noticed a significant difference in torque, especially in the 2500-3000 range, i have no dyno to back it up though. Its a pretty common thing for this motor with the Focus croud. I dont know why more people here havent done it. I noticed a little more vibration, but its not bad enough for me to want to put the balance shaft back in.

I think the intake manifold is going to make a huge difference on this motor. I just have to try and save my tax return money until its released. :yesnod:

so, how much money are we talin about for this intake manifold???, and can someone explain the benefit of it? ive heard of em, but never fully understood what they did for the car.

not that it means anything in regards to time, but the Gillis manifold is done and on my car already....just no feedback on it until i drive it. tuning always helps upgraded manifolds, but gains are usually there out of the box. i really love the sound of the venturies/velocity stacks on an all motor setup....sounds great, the turbo seems to deaden that sound a bit though.

for the most part it is for top end performance, though there should be "some" low end increase as well, though it more flattens out the tq band than raises it.

the BS is a nice upgrade, but not for the faint of heart. i've had to walk 3 people through it on the phone. and have had 2 people do it twices as the liquid gasket isn't the easiest then to do on the pan. gains are good, but almost like the TB upgrade, it's feel more than power.....cause you feel it without a doubt!
