As it's christmas time, I've been looking at presents for my car, and I've been thinking about doing a rather simple (I hope) mod to the head lights. I have already done an HID conversion, and was thinking of installing a set of these (along with resistors of course): V-LEDS TYPE 1 DUAL COLOR CHANGING HID WHITE AMBER SWITCHBACK 48 M-SMT PARKING/TURN SIGNAL BULBS 7443 7443NA
in place of the current amber bulbs. If nothing else it will look cleaner when I have the HIDs on, but I was really hoping I could set these up as day time running lights, while maintaining the blinker function. I don't have foglights installed, but if this is doing too much, I might just settle for the improved headlight look and just set the fogs up as Daytime Running Lights. Any info would be appreciated. I also still have to call to get measurements for the bulb, but it shouldn't be an issue as I can retrofit together something in a worst case)

I would suggest the TYPE 2 over the TYPE 1 from VLEDs. They TYPE 1 alternate from white to amber when you use the signal function, vs. the TYPE 2 turns off the white lights, then uses only the amber lights to blink. After you turn off your signal, it goes blank for 1/2 a sec, then fades back into the white light - similar to what the audi's do with there LED running lights, and turn signals. It looks way cleaner, and its the same cost. Don't forget to order the resistors for either one of those led bulbs, unless you want the blinkers to flash 2x as fast.

Since the turn signals are mounted from the bottom of the light housing, rather then the typical from behind the light housing setup setup - you will have to modify the housing to fit them since the bulbs are a hair taller then the stock ones and there won't be enough clearance.

On my car, the lights automatically turn off after 2min. even if they are not on the AUTO function. If that is the same with yours, your could just leave your switch on the parking light function, and that would give you your DRL, right?

that would work in theory, but if I just left the lights on all the time, the guages and taillights would always be illuminated, and the screen on my radio (a touch screen) would be constantly dim....given that it's hard enough to see it in the AZ daytime sun as it is, i was hoping there was a safe way to just wire it to a 12v constant battery source without disrupting the blinker function.

There is a function to fix that. Just press the dash light dimmer knob in and everything will be back to full brightness.

I understand that, I am also not looking to have to readjust a bunch of different settings every time I drive between the day and night. Like I said, I'm curious if anyone might know a way to hard wire this to work, any info on that would be appreciated

Honestly, you're not going to find it. Unless you do a proper DRL conversion, this is how you're going to end up.

This is what I've done:
1) Prefer DRLs, but it's not a deal breaker
2) Want auto-headlights, which I have, but they DO NOT come on with wipers (not legal, don't remember)
3) HIDs are voltage-regulated . . . life isn't as much of an issue, read on

I leave my headlights on for reason #2, but it solves #1 as well. Push the dimmer when it's too dark to fix it. I have an aftermarket system, but I have an independant switch under the nav to manually dim.

I did a DEI nite-lite install for a while, where it automatically dimmed with the ambient light . . . then went to the switch.

Option B is ignore what I suggest and do what you want. This is what my wife and kid does, so it might be a good idea just to ignore me :D

Another option is to figure out how to run fogs with just corner markers! Which is what I would like to do... but can't figure out...
